Ok guys I am wanting to get a j frame yet I have know idea as to which one I want so if you could only have one what would it be

Well, I just shot my model 60 Pro for the first time this afternoon. I would not recommend it to anyone who doesn't reload. It is rather small and lightweight for full up magnums, and I think there are better, smaller choices for .38 Special. My 38 Special +p, J frame, is the Wyatt Deep Cover Performance Center DAO snubbie.

p.s. reading this again, I should be clear that I was shooting light .357 reloads, liked it, and will continue. The gun will never see .38s. Well pleased with 5.0-5.1 gr hp-38 and 125 gr LRNFP. It is a published load found in a couple of my books and is in the Hodgdon website data as W231 powder.

A 438, like I have now after having some others. Much much better choice than a 442.

Same here - Model 36 Chiefs Special.

But I also have a Model 49 Bodyguard, Model 1953 22/32 Kit Gun, and a Model 317 Airlite Ti.

The recurring theme is, they all have hammers and SA capability.
And all of them are more accurate in SA fire then I am anymore.

I personally got no use for a hammerless DAO J-Frame.
I use mine more for woods bumming then SD.

The 638 is the model to beat. Question is, 1.75 in. barrel, or the 2.5 in.? I lean toward the 2.5 in. as it's not much harder to carry but you get more accuracy and velocity out of this model.

Of course, it's extremely hard to find one.

Yeah, I have a four inch stainless Model 63 22/32 Kit Gun and a few I frames. But the question was if you could just have one J frame. It would be the Model 36. I have no interest in a 357 Mag in so small a gun, the 38 Special Model 36 Chief's Special is fine with me.

For what use do you want one for?

For CCW, a 642 or 340

For a trail gun, a 34/63, or the rare 632 in .32 H&R magnum 4" w/ adjustable sights version.

For outdoor utility, a Model 60 with 3" lugged barrel or the short lived 5" variation.

It all depends upon your intended use.

I've owned about a half dozen...

...of the lightweights, and a few of the steel models. My only j-frame currently is a 637, which I like pretty well.

But if I ever again run across a no-lock 342, that will probably be the one they bury me with.

Had a crack at one 7-8 years ago, when I was on the 360/340 kick. I'm cured of .357-itis, and that 342 would do me just fine.
