I'm conflicted weather to get myself a Kel Tec as an additional concealed carry gun, or weather to get more gear for what i already have. My current concealed carry set up is a Smith and Wesson 638 in a pocket holster. Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy with my J frame, but i would like at least one more carry option. I also have a XD40 but i don't have good cocealed carry holster for it. So if it were you would you get the Kel Tec or spend the money on a good holster for the XD. I'm a student with a limited budget so getting both is not an option.

thanks

Well, if you don't have a holster of some kind for your XD, you need that worse then another gun you won't have a holster for either.

I'd get the XD a holster, more ammo, extra mags, a couple of speed-loaders or Speed-Stips for the J-Frame, etc.

I have two Keltec's,..the P3AT and a P-11,..I like them both and carry them often. Having said that,..I'd use the 300 to buy gear for what I already have,..and ammo to get some range time in with them. Save your nickles and dimes,..when ya have enuff,..
get the P3AT.....or it's equivalent...as they are a good deep concealed carry. I carry mine almost every day I can't carry something bigger.

Thanks for the replies. It seems you guys all seem to agree on purchasing more gear for my exsisting equipment. Well let me thicken the plot the Kel Tec i am considering is used 300 dollars for the gun, 2 mags, and a wallet holster. I already have Speed strips for the J frame and extra mags for the XD. I think you guys are probably right though i shoot my XD well and it has been reliable so it's a known Factor. I geuss i just have new gun fever.

Seems to be the obvious answer to me, too.

You need a real belt, a properly-fitted belt holster of some kind
Real gunbelt = ~$70
Good IWB leather/Kydex hybrid holster = $70-80
(I like CrossBreed and BeltMan, myself)

Spend the rest on mags, ammo, and somewhere you can shoot whenever you want, like a conservation or gun club with a private range.

Yeah i hear you Bigfatdave. I geuss i should have been more clear in my initial post. I have a good gun belt, and i have the hoster that came wth the XD. The supplied holster is alright for open carry, but i prefer cocealed carry. In addition I live in arizona so my wardrobe consists of shorts and a T-shirt most of the time. I have separate money to spend on ammo and range time, and i don't skimp on practice. I am a former MP. I have looked at those crossbreeds alot and i think thats what I'm leaning twords.

thanks

  1. IWB holster (for both maybe, just to have options)
  2. Two good belts for all occasions (1 black, 1 brown). 5.11 sells some nice leather ones for under $40 (I bought them for $5 at lapolicegear), they are real leather and don't have 5.11 stamped everywhere so they don't scream tactical. Just as nice as the $70+ custom leather belt I own.
  3. Ammo

Crossbreed makes a real nice belt for right around $50, and his OWB holster is a steal for roughly the same price. The Comp-Tac Minotaur is a nice IWB holster for under $100, and their OWB mag holders run under $50 IIRC.

Point being, you could pick up a whole set of custom gear for that XD and still have enough cash left over for a couple spare mags and a few boxes of ammo.

If *I* had $300 to spend I would get my buddy's G27 out of hock. If I were in your situation, however, I'd get a supertuck for the XD and a bunch of ammo.

Yes i have a ruger Mark II for my .22lr needs. Thanks for all the posts it sounds like everyone thinks a good carry set up for the XD is the way to go. I wish there was a place i could try a few holsters on before i dump my money into one. Think I'm going to start with a crossbreed super tuck.

With $300 couldn't you sign up for a little training? If you have the necessary gear allready, then it could be a good option.

The Kel-tec PF9 package.

You'll understand why once you carry it in AZ.

$300 worth of bullets, powder and primers...
This

3 lbs of powder = $60
1000 new cases from Starline =$150
500 Hornady XTP bullets = $80
Total = $90.00

Or, add 1000 primers @ $35.00

After getting yourself a good holster for your XD such as a few mentioned above (you may also want to consider Raven), I'd also get some more training. Software over hardware they say....

I use a Kholster http://www.kholster.com/ for my XD SC .40 and i cut it down as small as possible and its as good as the handmade holster i made for my 1911.
If you ask im sure someone has discount codes to get 10% off also.

Its a very comfortable holster whether tucked or untucked as it pulls the gun in tight and you can adjust it a million ways. Plus its half the price of a SuperTuck which is alot better quality im told tho.
