If You Were Heading For The Yukon Today

Not on purpose I hope! :)

I like the .460, but it deserves a bullet that can handle the velocity potential.

Let me guess monolithic solid or swift a-frames ?

Ooooo I know some extra soft, light for caliber lead round nose, in front of a max powder charge!:neener:

I would be shooting 45 Colt with 21 grains of H110. I would rather not have an X-frame, but the Ruger Super Redhawk with any barrel length is up there with the world's ugliest revolvers. The Alaskan is too short a barrel IMO.

If I were to guess, and I am, I would say he was talking about bullet choice of the xtp ,and it possibly not holding up to the task penetration in a dire situation, and not so much the about caliber choice.

But it wouldn't be at 460 velocities, simply according to Hornady data for 45 Colt, which I mentioned.

Still wouldn’t use the XTP. I’ve seen some spectacular failures over the years.

With 45 Colt?

Yes. They’re not particularly well constructed and they’re not bonded. A friend was using them in a .45 Colt at about 1,200 fps on about a 350 pound red stag, and when I get the chance I will post of the photos of the recovered bullets. On the same trip I saw XTPs in other calibers also fail. They are not a good choice especially when your backside is on the line.

Can you make a recomendation for a monometal bullet in 45 ? Ive seen the lehigh one, thats about it

The LeHigh is a great bullet, and it’s only competition is the CEB solid (Cutting Edge Bullets). The meplat is a bit bigger on the LeHigh. In a .454 the 325 grain A-frame is another good choice. They penetrate deep and stay together.

srh is weird looking. But its beautiful in the way a lot of utilitarian things are. Most people dont buy a super redhawk cause shes pretty, they buy them to have an extremely robust and powerful handgun that will digest decades of full power cartridges that would turn comparable firearms into scrap. The x frame is a different story but its also significantly larger and to my eye not very good looking either. The freedom arms revolvers are strong and beautiful but not as quick to fire or reload for most and their lighter weight make them a little bit more of a handfull to shoot. So many awesome guns out there, so few dollars in my pocket...

Have no idea what the Yukon is like, but have to wonder if this back pack shotgun might be something I would consider. Extremely light to carry, so simple to use and can bring along a 22.cal insert for small game, Or other calibers very easily.
Weighs only 4 and a half pounds. Gun is has a very solid, rugged build. Very versatile. I have shot 25 rounds of 00 buckshot back to back with no problems. And the 9mm insert I have did well at 25 yds.
12 guage Backpack. 18" barrel.
