I would suggest that you don't.

SAO PAULO, Brazil (Nov. 11) - A Brazilian woman who was shot six times in the head after an altercation with her ex-husband was out of the hospital and talking to the media on Saturday.

"I know this was a miracle," 21-year-old housewife Patricia Goncalves Pereira told Globo TV. "Now I just want to extract the bullets and live my life."

Pereira was shot Friday in the small city of Monte Claros, about 560 miles north of Sao Paulo, after quarreling with her former husband, who was reportedly upset because she refused to get back together with him. She was also shot once in the hand.

Doctors could not explain why the .32-caliber bullets did not penetrate Pereira's skull and didn't even need to be extracted immediately.

"I can't explain how something like this happened," surgeon Adriano Teixeira said, adding that the bullets were lodged under the woman's scalp.

The ex-husband was still at large.

i thought the 32mag was a great mouse gun..i guess not for headshot

Where does it say it's a .32 H&R Mag? It could have been a .32 S&W lemon squeezer. The article is terse and has few details. It's also the journalistic equivalent of hearsay--a report from another reporter in a far away land. Who knows what happened. Even a .32 ACP fmj will get over a foot of penetration in gel. It's more than powerful enough to penetrate a human skull.

read the article again,it says "32 cal handgun" could have been
32 acp,32 mag or 32 S&W short or long or any other odd ball 32 cartridge. I'd opt for the 32 S&W they have lead bullets.
or maybe he tried to shoot her at a distance, there not much info to go on OOH just thought of another 7.62 nagant

Quick!! Alert the media!!!

This means that Adolf Hitler is still alive!!!
This also means that he really did escape from Germany, made his way to Iraq, and is waiting for his chance to shoot the rope loose with his PPK and steal away with his friend Saddam to plot the take over of the world!!

Nah. You know some Marines'll be suppling the rope.

Let's see a damn wussy PPK deal with carbon-fiber climbing cord. :D

Swing Saddy Swing...~

Well, that settles it. I now know that .32, 38, 357, 9mm, 40, 44, and 45 are all terrible stoppers and shouldn't be carried. I was holding out on the 32 because I hadn't seen an article on it but oh well...........

Question is, was she still able to nag this guy into submission AFTER getting shot? If she shut up then I'd call it an effective caliber :p

Only saying this because my wife has not found THR yet!

Having taken a number of interesting guns off the streets...its entirely possible that those were some variation of .32 that had been loaded in some other caliber gun (like a .32 short in a 38 S&W or something) and those rounds basically rattled down the barrel and then popped out the muzzel with all the excitement of a Black Cat firecracker.

Or, the ammo was a hundred years old and just gave up its energy to the passage of time...

Who knows.

The skull is one of the strongest bones in the body. Furthermore, round nosed bullets (typical of Brazil since others are banned), will tend to deflect on a rounded surface such as the skull. Cirillo talks about this in his book Guns, Bullets, and Gunfights. His solution was VERY interesting and he tested on live (and fighting) subjects!

That's interesting but deciding that a caliber isn't effective based on a single incident isn't realistic. Besides this report is full of unanswered questions.

In the video "Deadly Effects" a man's bullet riddled back is shown.
The man had been shot 43 (yes 43) times with a supposedly good 9mm defense round. About 20-30 exit holes can be seen in his back. None of the bullets expanded. Finally it tool 2-3 12ga slugs to stop him.

Judging by this account the 9mm has got to be the worst defense round ever invented.
But I doubt that everyone will throw away their 9mm pistols.:)

I've seen myself a guy shot with five .45 hardball bullets. He was still able to talk and could have use a handgun ( but he doesn't have one :neener: ). So, he wasn't "stop" or even "neutralised".
But I wont say that the .45 hardball is a inefficient caliber.

There are general rules, and there are always exceptions...

I wouldn't condemn all .32's based on this. The point about bullet shape (pun!) is a good one. The weak old Nagant earned a reputation as a great sidearm because it fired a wadcutter shaped bullet in the standard loading known as "the pig." In headshots it was almost always fatal, so you could dispatch dozens of prisoners or traitors with ease and still have time for vodka and caviar afterwards.
