In this thread, you can see the original reporting--basically, Hizzonor Daley said that after the recent shootings in Chicago, anyone who opposes the new assault weapons ban should come and see him personally to explain why.

Well, DUH, Mr. Mayor--plenty of people would LOVE the chance to come to your office and explain to you the error of your ways! However, my money says the most they'll get is a photo moment and a quick nudge out the door. I simply don't believe the man's actually going to meet or converse with anybody he knows disagrees with him unless they're power brokers he needs for some reason.

Mayor Daley Challenges Pro Gun Forces - You Are Invited to Meet the Mayor!

Date Posted: March 14th, 2006
From the March 14th Broadcast;

'I want those who oppose a ban on assault weapons that were used against these families and children, to come to Chicago and explain this to their families and the community why they're against common sense gun laws," Daley said.
'One murder is one too many."
Daley said for more help was needed from Washington to help fight violence on the streets.
'How many more children have to die before the federal government restores more funding to fight crime. Especially against gun traffickers and those who own gun stores," Daley said.

ICRGO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (Illinois Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners, www.icrgo.org , )ACCEPTS AND PLANS ON VISITING THE LARGEST 'HANDGUN/ASSAULT WEAPON FREE ZONE" IN AMERICA TO DEFEND FREEDOM, GUN RIGHTS AND PROVE THE FAILURE OF CHICAGO STYLE GUN CONTROL.
ICRGO Director wants all gun rights groups members including ICRGO.ORG, GUNMAP.ORG, CONCEALCARRY.ORG, ICARRY.ORG, ILLINOISCARRY.COM, THE CHAIMPAIGN COUNTY AND NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCATION to meet at the 5th floor of Chicago City Hall at 10:30 a.m., Friday March 24th to educate the city's administration, the community of Englewood and it's civic leader why there is nothing reasonable or 'common sense" about more gun control and criminal enabling.

This is our opportnity to educate these people why there is so much problem in the largest gun free zone in America. ICRGO encourages all gun owners interested to review the gun control map at www.gunmap.org , download it at the bottom of the screen to adobe and print out many copies in color to pass out to these people. Please dress appropriately and remember to be courtious and polite.

Please email us at [email protected]. Thanks.

Get together with the IRPA (or whatever it is called) the local NRA branches etc and organize a LARGE march to go down to the mayor's office and present him with an NRA prepared legal and political justification for not banning "assault weapons."

If that fails, move out of the state and take all your money and taxes with you.

Don, please tell me you aren't getting involved with those people. You have no idea what you're getting into. I'm serious.

Uhmm I think that before people print that map it should be proofread and the number checked.

49for states that allow carry?
I thought it was 46 (really 45 how many permits does Hawahia (SP?) issue:mad: )

NukemJim

PS after going back and double cheking the bottom of the map has the correct numbers but the Large Print headline does not.

I forget how it's done, but you can torture the numbers until it's 49. You have to include all the states with "theoretical" carry and the ones that allow some sort of open carry (even states where there's not really open carry on a practical level.)

Barbara, I'm actually just reposting this from another forum. What do you know about ICRGO? This was the first I'd heard of them.

They're an off-shoot of MCRGO which was taken over by the Carpenter's Union about 3 years ago and is under investigation by the Feds right now.

Ok who ae these people? I had never heard of them either. I looked at their site, it seems like they are having the annual membership meeting at the director's home. The director either has a very large home, or they don't have many members.

Jeff

Notice how there's an address to send them money, but no real contact information? They mention an executive director, but don't name him/her.

Also, they claim to be working on legislative efforts, but also claim to be a 501(c)3 organization.

It's interesting. . . I searched THR for "ICRGO" and the only hit was a thread from 2004 in which we were complaining about Illinois gun rights organizations (some things never change) and I said "What we need is an ICRGO--a group not necessarily named after the MCRGO, but patterned after it."

At the time, I thought MCRGO had done a fantastic job with CCW in Michigan. I thought I was talking about a hypothetical--if ICRGO existed then, I didn't know it. I was not aware of a takeover by the Carpenter's Union. Why on earth would a trade union want to run an RKBA advocacy group? Some kind of bizarre accounting fraud?

The last thing we need is one more group in Illinois that's going to end up fighting with all the others.

Yes, some kind of accounting deal. Political capital, whatever. Its scary.

As far as I know ICRGO was started by Rollie Brengle who may or may not be the "Executive Director." If its him, he's a nice guy, if not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and not a Gambino. Carol Bamberry was also involved in starting it, a few years back, and she's a good woman. That doesn't mean I'd get in any way involved in them because if they do accomplish anything, the union goons will suck them dry.

MCRGO did a fantastic job. Unfortunately, none of the people who were there when they were an actual gun rights group are there anymore.

Yeah, now I have it up too. Not sure what happened, but probably just a browser thing with Mozilla.

FWIW, Shaun Kranish mentions "Don" as the Executive Director of ICRGO here. I don't know who that is.

I shot Shaun a PM, but I don't want to post some kind of accusation over there (though it's quite public here anyway.) It sounds like Shaun is working closely with this executive director, and I think Shaun's got some good ideas. We'll see how it turns out.

Clearly the DRAMA has not yet found its end.

That would explain a lot about gun rights in Illinois.
