IGOLD is next week. Come with us on our march to the capital and help show these people our numbers. Last year we had nearly 5000 people. I'd like to see double that.

Wow! Sorry to see that the NRA has left you folks for dead.

I only read part of the first link and what I saw was that (2) new "funds" are created, along with some new penalties for differing scenarios.

Illinois is so deep into an economic disaster, they are REALLY reaching deep into innocent pockets here. Outrageous!! :cuss:

Right Okran!!

We heard last Spring that their state Troopers were being denied fuel at remote gas stations as the State had not paid their fuel bills!!

Where are the NRA ILA people!!?

It is a tough deal. It's easy to live in a shall-issue state and make remarks about "Illinazi" and their crooked politicians. But it's a tougher choice if your roots are there.
My "roots" are there. I was born and raised in Chicago. I lived there until I went to college and joined the army.

I can quite literally think of NOTHING good to say for Chicago and Illinois.

Illinois and Chicago values are most definitely not my values. I got out in '86 for a job. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me.

The LAST place on earth I want to be is a place where a bunch of thugs, many of them convicted felons, prevent me from defending myself while voting themselves the power to carry concealed weapons.

If this were 1938 and I were a German Jew, I wouldn't stay in Berlin to be with my family.

Basshunter-

So you are winning? Not criticizing, but my family homesteaded in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. If you want to stay, that is your business. I wish you luck and good fortune but please change to a rubber mallet cause the noise from hitting yourself on the head may be bothering others....

Gun owners in Illinois have lost just about EVERY legislative battle in memory.

The ONLY reason why there is no handgun ban in Chicago is because of the United States Supreme Court. Left up to the legislators of the State of Illinois, there would be NO legal guns in that state... except in the hands of those like the infinitely corrupt Chicago City Council, which BOTH banned handguns in the city AND voted themselves the power to carry concealed handguns.

The pie in the sky, Pollyanna talk about gun rights in Illinois is of a kind with the excuse making for the continued existence of the mullah regime in Iran. It's all contra-factual wishful thinking enhanced by rose colored glasses.

After college I was choosing which law school to go to. I applied to two in Chicago and was accepted to one or both, I don't recall. I nearly went there. Why? Because I was a very naive 20 something who believed the lies of Hollywood and TV that you should live in a big glamorous city like Chicago. I was interested then in professional sports and the Chicago teams were "my" teams. I had no interest in guns at the time and also had no understanding of the tyranny of some states and laws, etc.

Thank GOD I chose to move out west to a free state instead. That decision literally changed the course of my life.

You couldn't pay me enough to live in some places, including Illinois.

The PEOPLE there need to understand and stand up for it and vote these crooks out!

Wonderful news for gun shops in surrounding states.....these gov types never learn, all they create is a new source point for over taxed products. Same thing has happened with medicine, food, and cigarettes.....people just go across the border to buy the product.
Free trade!

Cook Co. population 5.3 million
Illinois population 12.8 million

And the number of Cook Co. Registered Voters: 10.6 million.

And they all vote.

Several times each.

Until the Justice Dept. comes down like a Judge's gavel on the entire Chicago Political Machine/Daley Dynasty (which didn't even happen under multiple Republican Administrations, so it's even more doubtful that a Democratic one will be any better), Illinois is not going to change.

I understand not wanting to or flat out will not leave the farm mentality. I live in Arkansas and the family farm and land has been ours since before the War between the States. Some land was given to my family by the UNION after the war. Probably taken from some poor confederate family. But it is in our blood. Nobody will force us to leave. But, I live in a 2nd amendment friendly state. Could I move and make more money elsewhere. Yes. And not even out of my State. But I can not. I am from the South and being from the South is being from a Place. It is who I am. I am not going to change. So I understand. You can not leave the family land cause the family land is YOU.

It's a personal choice. Don't hate me for the decision I made. I certainly don't have a family farm in IL to worry about, but I do have ALL of my family there. But you know what? I have my own life to live. IL wasn't giving me a job, IL wasn't supporting my freedoms, IL wasn't giving me the political peace-of-mind I wanted. So I did something about it.

And no, there is nothing I can do to make IL any better. You may think you're helping, but you're not. Until you can get Chicago to be its own state, everyone else in IL will be at their mercy. I've voted many, many times with my heart in the past and look where you're at.

Nobody is making you leave. Stay if it makes you happy. Just don't hate on those who can't find that same happiness from a state that hasn't given them anything.

This.
Totally this.

Unfortunately, regardless of how much I write to my reps, I'm fairly sure these two laws will pass. Got out of the House fairly easy, didn't it?

I missed my chance to go to IGOLD, but unfortunately I had things going on that I couldn't reschedule. Since I don't have a job, I certainly had the time to devote!

But honestly, I would totally love to have the attitude that I can make a difference. That, a few of us can make a difference. That, many of us can make a difference. Maybe so, but not here in Illinois. I absolutely hate having a defeatist attitude about it, but it's just not happening. I know politicians are corrupt in places other than here, but I highly doubt in the magnitude IL/Chicago politicians are. And despite governors getting indicted and jailed from it, it make such a little difference. We went from one bad governor to a worse one. It's just going to happen over and over again. Everyone has said the immeasurable influence Chicago has over the rest of the state, it's very true. I'm kind of on the outer skirts of Chicagoland (Not quite, but pretty close) -- if you're north of I-80 and east of IL-47, you're going to REALLY feel it. But the thought that we, the informed Illinois citizens can really make a difference, is unfortunately a fallacy of false hope. And for people so tired of fighting, or those who finally realize there's nothing more they can do to improve things here in Illinois, leaving this state is the most sensible option.

So yeah, it does come down to choices. I would have already left if I could -- I have a mortgage that I don't think I can get out of, I have a daughter on the way, I'm virtually broke, and I've argued with my wife on MANY occasions about moving out of state. We both have most of our family here, and we're pretty close to both of our families. My wife's the one paying the bills too, barely. So for me, I honestly don't have a choice. What's one like me to do then to get out of state? I'd have to make some VERY tough choices.

ETA: I hope I wasn't political here. I apologize if I was -- and if anyone can help us get out of Illinois.... well, I'd be forever in your debt. lol

There are 102 counties in Illinois. In the last election, Gov. Quinn won 4. Cook was one of them.

The people here are complete and udder dopes. I once heard one of my employees having a conversation with her 20 yearl old son on election day. I only heard her side as she was on the phone. It was like this... "Oh, son, we always vote Democratic." Pause.... "I don't know, but we always just do"

I'm currently looking for a new home in Indiana. I understand wanting to stay and change things. I was born and raised here, as were my parents, and their parents. I think if enough of the businesses and breadwinners leave, they'll have no choice and have to change. The state is close to failed now. It shouldn't take much.

I attended IGOLD yesterday, and while it was a beautiful day, most of the legislators hide under their desks and have their secretaries run interference. "Oh, I'm sorry, you just missed Senator 'XXXX,' he's 'out to lunch,' feeding his dog,' 'in committee,' 'had to visit a sick friend,' 'went home to do his taxes,' 'her kid got a splinter,' etc. I came down with friends, and NONE of us were even able to speak with a SINGLE one of our representatives/Senators. 300 miles round trip traveled, plus gas money, and nobody would even talk to us.

Now this next part is second hand because I did not see him, but another IGOLD attendee told me that Rahm Emanuel and his entourage came down to Springfield, specifically during IGOLD, to twist arms and counter the efforts of the IGILD lobbyists. Now we know where the legislators may have been hiding -- entertaining Rahm rather than speaking with their constituents. This is particularly aggravating when you think that it's Rahm's job to worry about Chicago and not to impose state-wide legislation.

I too was at Igold yesterday. We did speak to a seanator. And he assured me that the fact that so many people (my group estimated 5000) came to show our support was a big boost for him and other supporters of 2A, and concealed carry. They have a CC bill out of commitee, and headed for the floor. We only lost by 6 votes last time around IIRC. He was very optomistic that we had a real chance this time around. We had a few speakers from Chicago, and it looks like public sentiment up there may be changing. People are afraid, the economy is down, crime is up, and people want to be able to defend themselves. Not to mention that they informed us of a pending case that has the potential for a "constitutional carry" decision, like NH. Or side is using it for leverage to pass a CC bill now. The arguement being that if the upstaters play ball now, we will negotiate the terms. But if we win the constitutional carry case, we will not play ball with them later. IE: they can help pass legislation they like now, or eat legislation they don't later. 10 years ago how many states would you have called a 2A lost cause? There is ONE left, and it's us. Everyone else overcame, and so will we.

Your enthusiasm is refreshing, hope you're right.

We'd already have won if we could change peoples appathetic "we can't win, why try" attitude. I have several certified gun Nut friends that couldn't be bothered to take a walk with us yesterday.
