Hi folks, just wanted to pass along some anti bills that are already thru committee and eligible for vote.... (links below will take you to synopsis of each bill at ILGA site)

We have already been calling and writing our Reps asking them to oppose these bills, I ask that you do as well.

HB1294 (very wide reaching "assault weapons" ban)

HB1599 (appears to increase penalty for ANY crime to a class 4 felony if accused is in possession of any semi-auto firearm. If you have a knife blade that is too long and are arrested for it and there is a legally possessed semi-auto in your vehicle...would this get you a felony?)

HB1855 (revoke and seize FOID card if you fail to report a stolen firearm within 72 hours. It follows that all your firearms will also be seized although this isn't stated)

I will be calling Costello but I would not worry about it going anywhere. Just a "look at what I can do" for Chigagoland politicians. Love this state but really cant wait to move.

Not surprising in the least.

I used to head into Chicago once a month to take in the sights of what I used to think was a world-class city. I haven't spent a dime there in 5-6 years. I got tired of financing former Mayor Daley's legacy projects--I got priced out of Illinois. The new mayor can justify anything draconian by mentioning "the safety of our children." Don't miss it.

My heart goes out to shooting sports enthusiasts who, by no fault of their own, were born in and planted roots in Illinois, especially NE IL. It's amazing how Cook County pretty much runs the state. I don't know how folks like the OP from the southern end of the state continue to fight the good fight and don't give up.

Nope - the bills were crushed.

We have at least 60 solid votes that will kill bad bills like these.

We just don't have a 3/5th to force a bill out of Madigan's rules committee. Madigan controls what happens in the rules committee, bills disappear into the rules committee and are never heard from again. The Speaker of the House is more powerful than the governor.

I hear we are only a few seats away from a republican speaker! It's time for the Madigan dynasty to end!
