Trent; Shouldn't that be "armed and outspoken" LOL.
15 years ago in Illinois, that was the same thing as armed and dangerous.
I did a speech on the courthouse steps about our right to self defense. The local cops brought in a swat team from Springfield.. cleared out adjacent businesses to put snipers in the upstairs windows.. bought ALL of the courthouse employees body armor.
(I told the Sheriff and States Attorney I was planning to do a peaceful protest with a loaded firearm and speech on the courthouse steps.. I was prepared to take the misdemeanor conviction... they went nuts.)
The morning before the speech was to occur, I met with the States Attorney and Sheriff, who pointed out a state law to me that would escalate it to a Felony if I brought a loaded firearm on to courthouse property without permission. I tried to get them to allow a firearm with the bolt out, which would only be a misdemeanor.
No go either, since I was wearing body armor, any misdemeanor would have also brought a felony conviction. (And with snipers in the windows and tactical SWAT dudes on every corner for 3 blocks, all with itchy trigger fingers, I wasn't about to NOT wear body armor.)
So my speech had some last minute modifications. The news stations were all there with cameras to watch me get arrested. But I got to disappoint them all with my "I'm armed and dangerous; with dangerous THOUGHTS the state doesn't want you to hear!" speech.
The crazy thing is I was already listed as armed and dangerous BEFORE this event happened.
Two weeks prior to that, Knox county sheriffs deputies shut down interstate 74 during a traffic stop of me and my red Camaro Z28, brought in SWAT, sent news crews packing... for my previous political affiliations.
But that's a story for another day.
(I was much more... umm.. outspoken? In my 20's.)
