I'm actually starting to like a Glock

I've always respected the design and function of Glocks, but after owning several Gen 3's and a Gen 2, I came to the conclusion they're not for me.

A while back I bought a used but like new G23, as a beater gun for going places and engaging in activities that could eppose it to undersirable conditions. Conditions I didn't want you expose my other guns to.

But this one is a Gen 4, and that's made a big difference. The reversible magazine release means I don't have to worry about the mag becoming unseated due to the release getting bumped (it's happened a number of times on the other generations). And the additional beavertail backstrap (medium) has made it much more comfortable. So I decided to invest some money into this "beater" and have some Trijicon HD night sights installed. I'm of the opinion that the stock sights are perfectly adequate, but these sights have made a big difference in various lighting conditions. I think it's a very well thought out design, that goes beyond the 3 dot nights sights to which I have become accustomed.

I put 100 rounds through it yesterday, and I have to say, I'm pretty fond of it now. I didn't think I'd ever really like Glocks, but the Gen 4 (although old news to many) has really changed my mind.

(KKM .357sig barrel in-coming)

Something about the minute changes to the frame with the Gen 4 works for me as well.

I dont like the Gen 3 and really like the Gen 4.

I am almost exclusively a Glock user for over 10 years, with few exceptions. I have a G17 that has surely hit the 100,000 round count by now, and gets 600 rounds monthly through it at the range, and I have other Glocks in various sizes and calibers and generations, 1-4. In all honesty, I can't tell what generation an unmodified Glock is when I am firing it. I also have a G23 as a "woods beater" that I got in a trade. I think it is a gen 2 (no rail).

I will admit that I used to not like Glocks at all and said I would never own one. Off and on I have owned a few different models and am looking at picking up a couple more.

The Gen 4 was a big improvement over the Gen 3. The grips are better thanks to the texture and backstraps, the mag release is much easier to use, and I think the dual recoil spring takes some of the sharpness off recoil.

In the past I had been thinking about getting a used Gen 3 G21 for cheap and buying a complete 10mm upper to have both a 10 and a .45, but the grip on them is so awful and the SF models are pricey even used.

I'm so-so on my G19. It was a gift from my retired sister who retired from D.C as a detective. She got it back in 1989 and it's a special edition for the police. It only had 100 rds thru it and never cleaned until it was sent to me three yrs ago. It would shoot left and Glock said it had a cracked frame. The frame was replaced with a gen 3 and all but the actual slide and barrel are now original. Now it's a gen 2-3 and is very accurate besides my faults. I'm not allowed to get rid of it per my sister otherwise it would be traded away.

I have a 43. I like it for small carry when I don't have a Shield with me. But.......I did buy a used Gen 4 19 the other day for $275 with 3 mags and the box and all backstraps. Still don't know if I want something bigger in Glock than the 43, but for that price, I figure I can tolerate it.:)

I never liked the way they felt in my hand at the LGS or gun shows. Then my FiL got a police trade-in G22 for cheap and I shot a couple of magazines through it. I sure liked shooting them a lot better than I liked just holding them. I ended up trading a couple of other small pistols for a G43, then I got my own G22 trade-in for cheap, and I figured if I was going to carry a G43 a G26 might be nice instead...

So I like the ones I have pretty well. They aren't my favorite semi-autos by any means, those would be the CZ75 family, but they are pretty decent shooters. I got a 9mm barrel and magazine for the G22, just for grins. I might even get a full-sized 45acp (isn't that the G21?) if I ever run across one for really cheap.

I carried a Glock as a duty weapon for close to 20 years. The first about 12 years. I don't believe you could make a better service gun that can be beaten around and neglected, yet still work. With that said, I don't love them. I don't appreciate the look or the feel. I simply can't seem to develop a bond with them.

I never thought I would like a Glock either. I didn't like the feel of them and hated the looks. They were just so blocky that the feel and looks suffered from it.

When the G43 came out it fit my hand better and wasn't AS ugly. It has became my go to carry gun most days. Later on after deciding I wanted a 10mm/9x25Dillon conversion i bought a gen3 G20 sf. I've customize it to fit me and now I really like it and both of those cartridges/barrels makes it a fun gun to own.

As with pretty much anyone who tries out the 10mm I became addicted and decided I wanted one small enough to carry occasionally so I got a gen4 G29 and it has become my favorite as far as how it feels in the hand and i can shoot it as accurately as the full size G20 so I love it. The gen4 does feel way better in my hand.

I'm not a "Glock guy" by any stretch of the imagination but I do like them and respect their reputation that they definitely have earned over time.

Question for the Glock fans:

How do POI and POA correlate with Glock sights. I know Sigs are supposed to hit right behind the center of the front sight. But I don't know about Glock.

The factor sights were hitting quite high on this G23. 8-10" at 25 yards whencutting the bull with the front sight, which seemed kinda high. It got lower with the replacement sights but still high with Magtech 180gr. Then I got the KKM .357sig barrel, and it's still shooting about 4" high with 125gr at 25 yards.

Do Glocks just need a 6 O'clock hold?

The square front strap on classic 9mm Glocks hurts my fingers and I cannot grip it as tight as I would like. I wish some company came out with a 80% frame that had rounded front strap. Polymer80 is a precise clone of Gen 3 in that regard, unfortunately. At least it does not have finger grooves. It's not possible just dremel the corners off, because plastic is already thin around the square magazine well. I have a much better grip on XD, Walther, and SIG pistols, so it's not that I'm in a big trouble without Glock. But it sure would be nice for the invisible hand of the market to work my way for a change.

I've at this time got a 23, 26, 27, and a 42 (wife's). In the past I've had a 17, 17L, and 20

The 26 and 27 are my favorites. Kinda like snub nose revolvers but flatter and with a higher capacity.

Not in my experience. I owned a Glock 34, a Glock 19 (both Gen 3) and I have a Glock 19X now and they all shoot Center Hold or right at the top of the front sight with front and rear even. I rented a 42 and a 43 and they shot the same.

The 2nd sight picture in the image above is what I mean. I copied this picture from another site. I couldn’t put it at the bottom of the post.

Strange though, because I've always heard that more recoil, and heavier bullet weight, cause a higher POI. But I've also heard Glock uses the same height of sights, front and rear, for 9mm, .357sig, and .40S&W chamberings. So I'd assume if all that's true, not every Glock will shoot true to the same POA.
