Springfield has done exactly what I was afraid they'd do: built an XD in .45 ACP. For me, this thing screams "CCW Carry Piece".

I bought my daughter an XD-9, and we argue over who gets to shoot it. It's a great gun, shoots well, has good ergonomics (at least for those of us with small hands), reliable, etc. I guess now I'll buy the .45 and we can argue over it. :D

I had the chance to shoot a XD-40 last night, very nice gun! Glad to see them expanding on the line. Which XD-9 do you have? I'm looking to buy the 5" tactical 9mm in a month or so. I want a nice, accurate, mild recoil gun for target shooting. Great line of guns! JDGray

I've got the 4" ("Service") model.

Recoil depends in part on what you shoot. Shooting the Wallyworld WWB (115 gr.) the perceived recoil seems slightly less than my 1911 shooting WWB 230 gr., which is more recoil than I expected to feel when I bought it. I attribute this to the lighter weight of the XD. However, it's very controlable, settle back to target nicely, ready for the second shot.

Another thing I like about the XD is that I can clean in in half the time I can clean my 1911. I attribute that to far fewer parts when stripped. That captured recoil spring is a great time saver in a lot of ways.

I haven't experimented with heavier loads in the XD, but I think I'll pick up some to see what the difference is. If the weather ever dries out around here, that is.
