I'm getting a Springfield XD Sub-Compact .40 soon.

Any suggestions on what accessories I should buy for it? (and as for a holster, I'm planning on getting the M-Tac from Comp-Tac.)

tons and tons of ammo. Subcompacts are a slightly different animal than fullsize service pistols and it took me a few trips to the range to get used to my Glock 27. At first I hated it and wondered why I would ever buy such a hard kicking, small, light gun.

Now I love it and shoot it as well as any other pistol. And good call on the MTAC, I just recieved my first one last week, ordered it less than two weeks before I got it, adjustable, comfortable, and you can get more half shells for your other guns (if you have any) if you want to carry a bigger gun when it gets colder out.

I agree on the ammo suggestions. Target rounds to get used to the gun and whatever carry ammo you desire to use to make sure the gun will function with that ammo. But the XDs usually will feed anything.
You may want to pick up a few spare mags, to help out at the range. The fullsize mags will work and you can get a grip extender to make the grip "full".

The MTAC is a nice holster, I have one for my XD9 4", I dont use it much anymore tho. I prefer to carry OWB(comptac paddle) with the XD, or just carry my PM9.

I saw that they have a "mag sleeve" that slides down the mag to extend the grip. How does that work? I mean, if you slide the "sleeve" down the mag, won't the mag not reach up far enough? And how does the Pierce grip extension work? Do you just buy another mag with it attached, or does it slip on the bottom of the mag?

NG VI got it right - ammo and more ammo.

I have 4 XDs, three 40s and a 45, and I like the SC best of all the 40s. Apart from getting the right holster for you, range time is all that is needed. I haven't added a thing to mine, other than touching up the paint on the sites from time to time.

A few of my favorites for my XD40SC

Pearce Grip Extender
Makes the short grip on the XDSC go from good to great! Should be around $9.

Bagmaster Holster with Mag Pouch
Got a bunch of this guy’s products. Inexpensive, quality product, requiring no maintenance (unlike leather)! The above model is my main carry holster for a number of guns. It has a belt loop on the back side that is pretty darn snug but does allow you to move/shift the holster slightly if needed, and a snap for the retention strap (no noise when breaking) and you can remove the retention strap if you’d rather not have one.
He has more customized/specialized stuff, but these models have always worked for me.

Just for fun-might keep this in mind for down the road? I bought mine off eBay for $50 from a gun shop outta Ohio that was clearing inventory. If you don’t “need”, you might want to keep an eye out for sales.
Insight X2 Tactical Light
Note that the Springfield version of the X2 (no longer available new, but still lots out there) was called the XML.

Here's my 40SC in an MTAC. I hated the "tail" as it kept bumping on my hip/butt on every step. Simple mod with a razor knife. Cut pretty easy. First cut off the tail, flipped it, and used the tail to do the reverse curve cut. Looked funny with a straight across cut.

The mag sleeve is ONLY for the extended mag. Otherwise you'd have the stainless mag body poking out the bottom of your gun. The sleeve comes with the extended SC mag, so usually you don't need just the sleeve itself. Here's pics of the SC setup. One normal mag, one extended.

Not sure what you're talking about-the gun should come with 1 short mag (requiring a Pearce grip extender for me) and I believe 1 extended mag. You may be able to buy the bottom extension from Springfield to make a shorty mag an extended mag, but I've never really looked at it that closely, and it didn't matter as I bought an extra extended mag from Midway USA.
Just did a quick look/see and I see Arrendo is making 3 round extensions for the XDSC-assume they work like the Pearce, but compare prices as you might be bout as well off as buying the OEM extended mag?
BTW...I see Midway has the shorty magazine for $20, the extended for $30.
Check this out for a good buy?

And how does the Pierce grip extension work?
You just push the release insert on the factory mag bottom, slide it off, and slide the Pearce on. BTW, the Pearce does not allow additional rounds-just gives you a place to park your pinky.
