Hard to tell what kind of rifle. It looks like a 30-rd mag, though.

It does appear as an AK variant. Looks like the gas tube is in the configuration of an AK.

If you compare it to this SKS,

The front sight bases are similar. However, look at the angle of his right arm... looks like a pistol grip weapon. But, they do have pistol grip kits for SKSes.

The rifle was an AK-47-type semi-auto. The early claims that it was an SKS was the result of a mis-ID by the police. As a previous poster said, the FSB is very clearly AK.

The front sight looks too high to be an SKS, and there doesn't appear to be anything below the barrel in terms of bayonet or even the bayonet attachment point (assuming it was removed?).

The pictures are crap, so a definite determination isn't possible, but I'm certain (p<.05) that it's an AK variant.

30 rd standard cap on an AK (another board is saying its a WASR10) you have to be thankful he must have been a crappy shot. Eight people killed is eight too many...BUT...it could have been WAAAAAY worse with just the one mag.

Magazine capacity matters not . He was shooting at UNARMED people , and like Cho could take his time to reload if necessary . Almost sounds like a Brady comment (no offense) .

Might want to pick those sights up some. Center mass is all nice and all but if you've got a handgun and he's got a rifle I'd highly recommend shutting him quickly down before he swings that thing in your direction.

Isn't it ironic that the media delivers on his wishes, and we gobble it up like so many horror movie-goers.

I'd love to see there be some sort of rule that these mass killers are never publicized....not their faces, not their names, etc. Don't know how that would happen, or even if it could.

But I strongly feel that the media sensation created by these monsters make it more likely that additional monsters will rise for the same publicity.

While i understand our curiosity about just what the firearm he used may be i do hate to see threads like this that no matter the tone of the thread just feed the shooter attention .

My take is that it really does not matter what gun he used , nor why he did it . The brady bunch and their ilk will dance in the blood of the dead calling for more gunlaws with increasingly hysterical chants .
