As you may know from the pink shotguns of Remington, many corporations are providing pink colored products to promote breast health issues. In like manner, Harley-Davidson sold pink leather jackets.

I believe in this work, and I'd like to offer a knife whose funding will go to Oregon Health and Science University Cancer Center in Portland Oregon. Just by my company's purchase of this knife, 10 percent of that price has already gone to their Breast Health Education Program.

These health issues run in my wife's family.

This knife is a three-inch, plain edge Benchmade Griptillian, the model with the Spydie style hole in the handle and the axis-lock.

Now, I can imagine some of you have concerns. You're going to be asked to bid on a knife at amounts far above the price of a Griptillian. A pink handled knife, at that.

Here are the reasons why.

You guys also collect and use knives, and not just any knives. You like nice stuff and you ask probing, intelligent questions.

The blade on this knife is made from the alloy 154-CM. That is the same alloy that Emerson uses on his "hard use" knives, and also what Josh Graham provides on his Razels. If you are a collector, you'll remember that custom maker Bob Loveless also liked this alloy.

Additionally, the knife is to be taped, frozen and then sharpened and buffed with the same tools used by the polishers of samurai swords--all of the way back over 800 years.

I am going to make sure that this folder is the sharpest tool any of you will ever obtain in the entire USA. And it will have my company's "life sharp" guarantee. You dull it, we sharpen it for free.

Now, 100% of the money received (including what I paid for it) will be sent to the Oregon center. No fees, no hold-backs, no charges for postage.

I am now exchanging PMs with hso on how to properly handle this auction, how to prove to you that the center gets the money (I want a third party on this) and I need help in how hso wants the computer listings to be reflected.

When the knife is sharpened, polished and ready to go, I will post a picture and the procedure will begin.

And you will be offered the best, sharpest knife I know how to complete.

Tourist, thanks for doing that. I won't be participating in the auction, as I'm not a knifehound, but I'm still very pleased to see this on here.

Hey, don't thank me, I have a face-cord of bad kharma parked in my back yard.

Frankly, this could not have been done--or even permitted--without the owners of THR, hso, and the other mods working behind the scenes. They walk the walk.

BTW, here's the knife already freezing, preparing for the polish.

I think you're doing a great thing, but I'm kind of hoping that someone will come out with a color some day to support cancer research into prostate cancer. Almost as many of us guys dying from it as women dying from breast cancer.

Where are you posting this for auction?

As soon as the knife is polished, I'm going to ask hso the procedures for listing the auction and the recommended time it has to run.

He sent me a PM which confused me more than helped me. I'll send him my phone number and he can walk me through it.

He asked that I make this announcement to get the guys ready. I am concerned that I might have to handle the check. Granted, the winner will know how much he cut the check for, and he knows where it's going. I just might have the winner cut a bank draft naming the center--not me.

Well done TT.

BTW, this thread is posted in "Group Buys" in a slightly edited form (hey, one of the other mods liked the idea so much they moved a copy there to get the ball rolling).

let me know where the auction is so I can bid...

It will match my pink shirt!

Don't worry bout me... I am 6'4" 255 on man and besides if you got a problem with someone like me carying a PINK knife we can go outside and talk about it. I am a HETROSEXUAL WHITE MALE. It's a shame we don't get our own flag or holiday but that's ok... we are what makes the country go round. We put the red, white and blue in Our flag. We don't need no rainbow flag, or month named after us o r aholiday to celebrate our heritage........only a family to respect love and care for us as providers and teachers for our family.

If you get real nasty...no problem all you got to do is be able to run faster than 3200 feet per second! LOL

Everyone remember why you are off work Friday.... July 4th is for Our country.

some of the best things in life are pink!

amen brother!

I actually took part in the "relay for life" fund raiser at Bristol speedway this past weekend. I was sitting around pondering how a gunnie might raise money for a cause like this. I take part in motorcycle rides for the PBTF, and do other stuff for various cancer causes.

This is brilliant and an elegant solution. Thanks very much for doing this Tourist.

Some final details.

I just got off of the telephone with hso as he gave me technical advice on the charity. I will finish the knife tonight, and the "start" will be posted. I have asked hso that the amounts should be posted publically.

He also recommended that the knife be shown, and we will be speaking again to make sure that the settings on my camera truly show the polish to the knife. He did mention that the best pics so far were the shots that showed reflections.

In preparing for the final polish, I tried some techniques on a Veff fillet knife "to practice." I am using that fillet knife to show just how polished the Benchmade will be. I have posted two shots from slightly different angles to best capture the bevel.

Because this effort is to be an "open book," I have just called the Oregon Center in Portland and asked them for the names, officers and mailing address for this charity. Obviously, my efforts went through the medical end, not the administrative end. They are researching the exact person I am to deal with.

They have my name, my telephone number and the name of my business, and I will be in contact with this exact individual later today.

All info shall be posted here in its entirety.

Wow, that edge looks awesome!

skinewmexico, I know that on Father's Day MLB players wore light blue sweatbands to promote prostate cancer awareness. They've done this for some time on MOther's Day with pink for breast cancer. I don't know who else besides MLB does it.

The sharpening and the polishing of the Benchmade charity knife has been completed!

Yes, it is very sharp, and a bag of chips. The edge is perfect, the polishing turned out flawless.

I will now be in contact with hso, and we will finalize the thread for the bidding amounts. Guys, this is a good charity and a great cause. I ask your cooperation in making this a success--and you get a fantastic knife! Thank you.--Chico
