I've been limited to carrying short barreled handguns in the appendix position for several years. I have an appendix inside the waist band holster I made for the Glock 19, but it was uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour. The muzzle put too much pressure on my body.

I discovered "the wedge" on several gun forums. It is a block of foam attached to the muzzle end of the holster to soften the feel of the holstered gun against the body. It makes a huge difference in comfort! I can now carry a Glock 19 all day in the appendix position. I bet I could build an AIWB holster for my S&W Model 24 and carry it all day using the wedge.

The DeSantis clip-on magazine carrier is positioned next to the holster in the front. This eliminates printing at the back of my belt. I clip the carrier to my pants (beneath the belt). It works well.

All materials are available at Home Depot:

  • Foam: 22"x22"x3" foam found in the Carpet Department
  • Velcro: Velcro brand self-adhesive velcro
  • Foam on magazine carrier: Frost King Rubber Foam Weatherseal 1 1/4" wide, 7/16" thick

Cut the foam to the desired shape and thickness using a new utility blade--sharper is better. Apply velcro to both holster and foam. Assemble.
