Just picked up the new Trail Boss powder from IMR yesterday and was enquiring to the loading of .45 Colt for cowboy loads. The lady selling it and one gun show commando said "Just fill up the brass leaving enough room to fit the bullet" Me being leary of this wonderful advise, started doing some checking. IMR calls for 5.5 grains of powder (this stuff is really big "donughts" chopped up) with around a 230 graind bullet. I pulled out my old Lee scale, measured out 5.5 grains and filled up a shell. It only went half way up. So much for "Fill 'er up!" Started reading my Lee Auto Disc, and of course with Trail Boss being new, is not listed which disc to use. Anyone use this powder yet with the auto disc?

I have used it, but not for 45 colt yet.

I have used it in 38 special and 357 magnum. You just have to experiment a little to find the correct disk. Once you do, you are in the money. This stuff meters better anything else (or at least as good.)

I have only used it on hard cast bullets (Oregon Trail) and it was pretty dirty. However, I think that was more a function of the bullet than the powder. I plan on loading for some Hornady lead bullets that I have recently bought.

I was going to use W231, but I didn't have a disk small enough to measure the 3 grains I was going to use.

Regards,

Stinger
