Supose the SHTF, what is fare game? In my book taking that’s that will contribute to survival is defiantly fare game.

Food
Clothes
Shelter
Ammo & Arms (some of us don’t need to scavenge for this, so do:neener: )
Transportation

Other than that, taking a few things that would make life more bearable get into the gray shaded areas. (For me coffee would be the main thing, not a necessary item, but still worth its weight in gold when the world as we know is it on its head for a while.)

Breaking into the Bass Pro shop that taking your entire shaping list, even though it would help you survival, still seams a little overkill to me.

The things like 15 pares of designer jeans and big screen TV’s is just total Bull****:banghead: :fire: :cuss: . How in the hell would any of that stuff help survival:cuss:  . As far as I’m concerned the only thing that would ever come out of the electronics department from any store would be batteries, walky-talkies, radios, and GPS devices. CD’s, TV’s, Video Games, Telephones, anything else is just taking advantage of the situation.:fire:

You do what you gotta do. Although running out the door with a case of ammo under your arm should earn you a shotgun blast from the store owner just as much as running out the door with a six-pack and a DVD player.

Perhaps you should obtain the items the old fashion way :
buy or barter for them. If you have not items/money for barter, consider bartering your labor in exchange for the items you are seeking. Or at least leave a note listing your address, items you took, and how you intend to pay for them.

Stealing is stealing!

WHEN the SHTF (not IF), twill be better to be even mildly prepared than to be caught ill prepared as those in NOLA.

As far as stealing to survive, taking a loaf of bread when you haven't eaten in a week is no different than taking a big screen...stealing is stealing. That being said I would try to barter for what I need, even offer to work for what I needed. Most people are going o be desperate IF ths SHTF, so you'll probably be able to help, using your skill sets to add to a group of people (i.e. sub-division livers help each other out, etc). Read halffasts book "Lights Out" for a great adventure in SHTF stuff! Iy made me realize there were a lot of things I take for granted...like how water gets to my house...

Prepare yourself NOW for the eventual fall and if it never happens, big deal, if it does your golden.

Roving hoards of violent looters will be dealt with severely in any SHTF situation, especially if .gov is out of the picture for some reason...

Fare game would be stocking up ahead of time or else the person
getting supplies during a SHTF might become fare game.

+1

I have all my supplies ready to go. The only fair game to me is the people trying to steal from me.

In a real SHTF, breakdown of society type thing, fair game is shooting anyone who attacks me first, or anyone that tries to steal from me, and taking whatever supplies they have on their body.

Anyone else, I'd barter with.

This thread probably belongs in Legal and Political. So feel free to start it over there.

I think it's about time we had a moratorium on SHTF threads here in Strategies and Tactics and got back to talking about self defense issues.
