Yep, and US Navy Sailors who were (are?) not aviation people were called "Blackshoes". That's because people in the regular Navy wore black shoes with their uniforms, while Navy pilots wore brown shoes. Either term, whether "Blackshoe" or "Airedale," was preceded by a vulgar word or two. I was a "blankety-blank" Airedale, and I called the Navy Cooks on the carriers that made watery powdered eggs, "blankety-blank" Blackshoes.
But just to keep this gun related, I think this is what a lot of Navy Aviators (Airedales) are carrying nowadays - https://www.sigsauer.com/store/p229-m11-a1-compact.html
