Gods coununtry. IDAHO.
Please dont beat me up to bad im looking into a new inline
I already have a Thompson pro hunter and im verry pleased with it
so i have thought about a ML barrel for it. so if yall dont mind what are some of the pros and cons about the Encor pro hunter ML barrel. thanks.

I shoot Encores.

Hey there;
I shoot an Encore and so does my son. Mine is not the pro Hunter.
Just the standard Black gun.
80 grains of Pyrodex "P" is my perfect load.. 209 REM, ML primer.
the ML works the others are too hot.
250 or 300 Grain Barnes MZ expander.. One hole groups at 100...
these bullets kill every deer they are tossed at. 100% expansion w/ Zero weight lost...
The 250s rarely exit and the 300s almost always exit. Both kill em dead in there tracks. This has been the case for several years now and we have taken many deer with this load. Michigan has a very liberal deer season and we feed the hungry.. I use the OLD Baush and Lomb scope That now has a different name on it.. 3200 Elite.. the rain guard on the glass works.... Even in a down pour it works..
Stay away from any of the easy load sabots. They are not even close to as accurate as the Black ones...
"P" will give you a more consistent PSI curve and you will see the difference at the target. Do Not use 150 grains of "P"... that could be a very bad day ...

Most of the Stainless barrels are slightly looser than their black brothers and will want to be fired maybe a little less clean. My Blued barrel likes being very clean.
I took a nice buck at 160 yards , 1 at 184 yards and many under that with this load. Runs at about 1550 FPS... From our guns.. More than enough to take any animal in the US...

Have fun with the new barrel... :)

Good post, Wildfire. I don't mean about the Encore. I mean about the range. I do shoot in-lines (.45 caliber) and have for years. I also use Remington 209's. I'm scoped up good with either a big Zeiss or a Shepherd, just depending on which rifle I might reach for. I fire 110 grains of Triple Seven 3fff. I'vd got several different types of sabot's around here but I really lean toward Cabela's Extended Range. I have them from 180 on up through 300 and I have had extremely good luck with them over the past years. (plus they're just a little cheaper in buying). Over the years I have taken every medium and big game animal on the North American Continent and some of them many times over and quite a few in the jungles of South America. (with a Walker revolver as a backup but never really needed it for that as long as I had my rifle at hand). Many many of my shots have been made in excess of 150 yards or at around 150 yards, and a few (when feeling pushed to make them) in excess of 200 yards or at least around a good 200 yards and maybe a bit more. ( sometimes if I felt the situation would maybe warrant it and having to make a half assed educated guess at the circumstances I would find myself in I would up my powder load a bit from the 110 grains). I don't hunt in that manner very much any more, just have no real interest in it. I'm a little older now and spend most of my spare time in front of a propane heater with my coffee and pipe tobacco and visiting around with my computer on the different sites.
Well anyway, I was glad to find your post. I can't help it, I just get so tired of people bragging and trumpeting around on here about how they shot a 3 inch group at 75 yards or at 100 yards with some damned ol' gun. Not speaking ill of them, I just happen to find your post very refreshing....PS, also glad to hear you use the meat to feed hungry people....

Weather you use a Flint, a Caplock, a Musket cap or a 209 primer. They all have one thing in common. They are loaded from the front. Meaning they are all muzzle loaders (front Stuffers). Problem is that they were designed somewhere in the 1990's or around there. If that design came out in the 1850's or 1860's it would be totally acceptable. Same time i am sure it would be totally possible to make up a break action rifle with a nipple on the back taking a #11 cap or musket cap. It would have been the ultimate rifle in the civil war. the next problem with these is the looks. They have too much of modern day looks. I love my CVA Buckhorn. Sametime though i think it would be so coool to see an inline barrel on top of an old pennsylvania stock or even a hawkens.

Morning Scrat, (Scott)..Yeah, no question. Those old rifles are beautiful, truly work's of art. I don't shoot them but I really do like to look at them. I have alway's thought that the patchbox designed and cut into the stock was really something. (just one of those little things that make's me stop and think) Yeah, CVA make's some good rifles for people who like inlines. I prefer Traditions for the most part I reckon because I just like the balance and handling and the fluted and ported barrels for the most part. (plus it's just a damn good shooting and accurate rifle) But that's just me. I certainly am not trying to push my views and likes and dislikes off onto anyone else. I don't care what people shoot. None of my damn business anyway...Well, hope you're doing well out there Scrat. I started to post some on the 'Walker Thread' but hell, I couldn't think of anything to say on there that hasn't already been said so I passed on it. Well, talk to you later....

Very Nice Gun.

Hey There;
Me again.
I used side locks for many years. Had no real issues that lasted very long and learned everything the hard way. Took a lot of time and money.
I gave my side lock to a Missionary and another to his sons. I have used and owned 4 Whites. They were very accurate rifles. I still have one. A Rodger Raglan Signature series. 1 of 500 made. Ser. # 177.
I will likely keep it. I now use the Encore because Hunting competition became so great around here {SW Mich.} . Every one is in the woods. I hear so many shots during deer season. Mine makes one shot....

I have so many other choices . But Chose to hunt with the In line .
It works for me. I also just bought My son and I new Uberti 1860 Army Revolvers.
They are every nice shooters and we will take some deer with these too.
I know all about hunting ethics and don't need any help there. Been at it for most of 40 years now.
But also know that the next doe that walks in at 10 to 15 yards is not going to have a very nice day when That 1860 goes bang.
We are required to kill as many deer as we can on that property and will. Again , we feed people that maybe do not have things as well as we do.

My freezer is now full and my sons is also. The rest will go to others.
We love to hunt and to maintain the use of that land we need to reduce the number of deer on it.
This farm is mostly open fields and very little woods. There is one ditch with trees on both sides. All shots are every long. The Cap and ball guns could not take deer at these ranges and plant them . The Encores do...

I have been shooting a Encore pro-hunter for several years now. I originally purchased mine with the 209x50 M/L barrel on it. Since then I have added 8 more barrels to the mix. My rifle seems to favor the 250 grain shockwave bullet by T/C. I have tried many others with some sucess and others were just horrible. I picked up 4 packages of power belt platnium's on clearance at the end of season. The best group I have ever shot with these was 3"+. The shockwaves will print a sub 1" group off of a bench at 100 yards. THe pet load is 95 grains of 777 and a winchester 209 primer. Last weekend at the range we were shooting a 10" gong at 200 yards without a problem. Another thing that my rifle does not like is the triple seven primers. Seem to leave alot of residue in the breech and breech face. I contacted T/C about this problem. Their tech guy told me these primers are slightly undersized and allow gas seepage.
Since sabot bullets are not allowed in all states I tried the Hornady FPB bullets and have had pretty good results. They will shoot around 1 1/2" groups for me using the same winchester primers and 83 grains of 777. Nice rifles enjoy and expermiment a little and you'll find a solid load that hits hard and is very accurate.
