I am on the market to buy or build a stand for my gas guns, which need to be cleaned upside down to keep the gas system free of solvent.

The ideal stand would be wide enough to not press down on the handguard of my M1A down during cleaning. Compact storage is also a plus.

I see some options out there for $50-60 and was wondering if anyone would care to share their impressions of models they have used.... thanks!

Nope, it does not fold. However it hold the rifle rock solid and really isn't very big. I would recommened getting the whole kit, it includes two cleaning rod cases as well and it all works as one unit. Awesome to take to the range...

I actually use a $35 plastic vise with rubber jaws that I picked up at ACE hardware.

The added bonus is that it'll hold back the bolt if you accidentally knock the bolt too hard.

Sven, have you got a garage to do wood work in? One of my work stands is a 2x6 x 4foot, with some verticle dowels to hold the butt, and another wood block to hold the muzzle higher. Pretty simple.

Or, glue up some stiff foam: my two piece stand works fine also!

Hows that M1A shooting for ya? I am about to send one to Hook for tweaking.

Dave

Dave: Biggest problem is that I have to feed it! 0.50" 5 shot group, no complaints here. Gotta ask Hook what his recipe is for 175 SMKs...

No garage here, need something that folds away, probably pre-made.
