I'm in the market for a new or used 20ga semi. i liked that remington 1100 that i talk abt in a previous post but i need a screw in choke i can't afford a benelli or a browning i have a a5 but its a fixed choke and I'm.not shooting steel tho it. I'm on a tight budget I've looked at a tristar raptor a lot and a buddy has a used Charles daly 12ga for sale so I'm just need some advice thanks

Cz 720

I bought a CZ 720 earlier this year.I love it.Shoots anything from light target loads to 3" magnums without a problem. 5 choke tubes come with it. It's gas system really tames the recoil too. You said you were on a tight budget,so this would be a good one to look at.:scrutiny:

20 ga semi-auto

Avoid the Charles Daly, Daly is out of business and no one is carrying spare parts.

The 1100 or the 11-87 both come with screw-in chokes and are both very reliable guns.

I didn't know a cz was that liw price that is something i will keep in mind. the charle daly is a newer one its a 3 1/2 and i thinks its camo stock i looked at numrich they listed parts for it I'm really not that interested in it i have 2 12ga and i don't want another else it was a antique i would rather go to a 10ga then a another 12ga and have it as my Turkey and waterfowl gun. the 1100 i have looked at used don't have screw in choke. anybody knows anything about ussg shotgun i think their Russian built

Another vote for the Franchi Affinity. I have the 20 ga. compact and love it. I shoot it a lot better than my 12 ga Montefeltro. It has cycled all types of loads that I have put through it. Great dove and pheasant gun. pd $710 for it new.

Franchi Affinity & Weatherby SA08 are both fine choices. I cannot say enough about the Affinity.

If you like the 1100, Mike Orlen or Steve Rose can thread the barrel for rem-choke tubes for less than $75 IIRC.

The Franchi is a good gun but you should save some more and get the Benelli or shop around for a used Benelli M1. I have four of them in 20ga and they are the best shotguns on the market IMO.:uhoh:

I have a Remington 1100 LT 20 that I really enjoy. I have a Magnum barrel, a Skeet barrel, and a 28" Barrel 2-3/4" that I had Mike Orlen install choke tubes in, and the 28" gets 99% of the usage. In fact, except for waterfowl hunting that gun gets most of my shooting these days. An 1100 is not as light as some, but it still isn't close to what you would call heavy, and it won't go as long between cleanings with dirty loads as some newer designs but I've never shot it to where it quit - over 500 rounds a couple of times - and that gas action makes for a very soft shooter. I do give it a quick 5 minute spray and wipe of the gas parts anytime I shoot it whether its 1 round or several hundred, and it has been dead reliable. If you don't have that 5 minutes to spend cleaning, I would advise you to look at something else, because sooner or later you will have trouble.
11-87 is practically the same gun as an 1100, but it has the 3" capability. Note, there is an error in the 11-87 owner's manual. You should remove the barrel seal activator for heavy loads.

CZ for me.

Commando is spot on with the CZ. I had to order one for client and was really impressed with what you get for the buck. The 900 series is a fancier version but the stock has more drop than the 700's. You should find for around $500. Add $50 for the 900 series. I will have a 712 before next fall.

My budget is around 400 i might could swing 450 buts that's it and that will take so time. i looked at a tristar early this year i realy like it i like the syn better then wood. I really like to find a remington model 11 but it would be no better with a fixed choke but i still like. i am keeping the cz 720 in mind i might come swing it thanks

I owned a TriStar Viper G2 for some time, and put a couple thousand rounds through it (guess) and never had a single malfunction. It shot well, handled pretty well, and performed well. I can only speak for the one I owned, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at them.

at a gun show two weeks ago there were two used rem 1100,s,a 20ga and a 12ga that were priced at 399.00 and they were in very good condition(no rust or pits) with vent ribs, fixed chokes. if i didn,t have a rem 1100 in 20ga,i would have bought it. eastbank.

I agree with eastbank , in that price range I would shop for a good used gun .

In the past 4 years I have gotten 5 used Beretta 20 ga 390's and 391's (One a hard to find youth with 13" LOP and 24" barrel). Prices ranged from 500 to 700. Just keep your eyes open and you can find some quality used 20's. 12's sure are a lot easier to come across though.......

I talk to my buddy that has the charles daly i think its a maxi mag camo stock and 28in barrel and he has 3 chokes to it i am really thinking about it he wants 400 is this too high? I know this guy takes really good care for of his guns he shoots skeet and i know it would be like new shape i really was wanting a 12 i got 2 but the 3 1/12 is making me really think about it he said it will cycle light load but i really like a 20ga but i am not sure thanks

Wal Mart has a Beretta 390 semi for close to that price. Black synthetic stock, a couple of screw in chokes.

The Wetherby SA-8 is a nice 20 gauge semi-auto in the 500-600 range.

My walmart sporting suck big time nobody has a clue about anything and can't ever find the order book. I am not rushing into one I'm goin to take my time find one that fixs me good. thanks

I have a Franchi 720 I really like. The 1100 LT 20 is great but heavier.

I've bought my Grandaughters Remington 1100 LT 20 gauges. They love them and has a little kick. You can buy the screw in choke barrels down the road or find one with it.

I look at a weatherby sa-08 and a old ted williams and the tristar viper of the 3 i like the feel of the tristar way better i like the sights it was light if fit me great i was reallt impre with it i am really thinking about a tristar i really like the syn a lot more then the wood stock thanks

I inherited one of the original Remington 1100s. 20 gauge barrel on 12 gauge receiver and stock. No adjustable chokes, though (according to Remington, my barrel is modified choke). Best shotgun I've ever owned. You can find 'em used for $350 if you look.

Good luck with whatever you choose!
