Inconsiderate folks at the range.

I've had generally good luck avoiding morons, but I've seen & heard a few when I was shooting.

Best thing to do is be better than they are.

Personnally I think Fitz de-escalated the situation by putting those guys in their place in a non threatening, safe manner,

Yea, because shooting a gun is always the best way to defuse a situation.

I'm sorry Matt did you not realize that they were at a gun range where it is generally acceptable, customary and even expected that guns will be fired.

I've been lucky too. I've taken several new shooters to the range (indoor) and have never had a problem. If anything, people who found out they were new shooters complimented and encouraged them (no matter how badly they may have done).

I hope the positive experiences continue!

At the October TN THR shoot, OEF_VET and I were on the 25-yard line during a break when a "gentleman" started hanging his targets on top of VET's. When VET pointed this out, the guy had the gall to give him flak about it.

OEF_VET handled it commendably, remaining calm and polite in the face of the other guy's boorishness. Not sure I could have done that.

James, I think you handled the situation very well. Your actions spoke louder than words could have. Always count to 10 and then (censored).

ahh, Dave, it weren't that big of a deal. I just pointed out that I was simply attempting to get my SAR onto the paper at a short distance so that I had a decent starting point when I moved over to the longer range.

He did act rather rude about it though. Oh well, some mothers' kids.

The only time I make a comment at the range is when someone is shooting dangerously..

Otherwise, I encourage everybody..

I had 3 guys shooting "gangsta style" holding their glock rentals sideways, and not hitting paper. I told them, that kind of random one handed shooting is going to get someone hurt, and if they don't knock it off, I'll tell the rangemaster.

They were a bit pissed off, and started following me to my booth..

They wanted to see how well I shoot.. Glad I didn't disappoint :D

But I don't find a need to make comments and I ignore all comments, unless there is a safety issue involved.

And arguing with Marines? Come on.. If they didn't run their mouths, would they REALLY be marines?? :neener:

I wouldn't worry about pulling rank, and go ahead and do it after showing them up. "Hollywood-fresh-out-of-boot cherries" even aggravate most other Marines sometimes. I would say that most Marines respond well to being shown that they're not as good as they think they are at everything, then being taken down a notch or two by rank. We can be dumba$*es sometimes, but rank and demonstrated proof of ability work well in my experience--at least they did when I was a PFC ;)

The jarheads commenting about how poorly another shooter's skills were was just plain rude, unless they knew the other shooter personally, and were teasing him.

I don't associate with rude people. I would have ignored them totally, rather than engage in a stupid "mine is bigger than yours" contest. Then again, age may have played a BIG part in the behavior here.

I've had pretty good luck with people at the range...even the gangsta-looking guys are pretty polite.

I read these posts from time to time and it always makes me feel extremely fortunate to have my own place to shoot.

I've never been to an indoor range.
The only outdoor ranges I frequent are trap/skeet/clays and have yet to meet a bad/dangerous/smart***/cocky/etc person.
