In Western NY, bow season opened on 10/15. Turkey opened 10/22. Normally, I don't mind this, until this year. For the first time in my 22 years of hunting, I was confronted by the dreaded retard.
I entered the woods about 10 mins before sun-up. I had been warned that there were 2 others that had entered not long before me. One was bow hunting, but the other was out for turkey. Lucky for them, they had split up.
I came upon the turkey hunter as I entered the upper field and he was looking like a newbie in his mixed camo (HD pants, MilCam jacket) and no head cover. Pale faced and blond hair... go figure. I asked where his partner was just to make sure I didn't go where they were planning to hunt and so I could make sure I wouldn't be shooting in their directions. He tells me, I told him where I planned to be and wandered off.
Now, where I planned to hunt was 300 yards as the crow flies from where he was standing. I sat down and was greeted with a rack topping a rise in the field that turned out to be 8 to 10 points. After watching and waiting for 1/2 an hour for this deer to work his way up to me, I begin to hear noises behind me. Ok, another deer, I think. Wrong.
The jerk came to my exact position and sat no more than 10 yards from me and not more than a half hour after I walked away. He had to have made a bee-line to follow me. His excessive use of a box call ensured that nothing would grace our presence for the rest of the day. I lit a cigarette and he approached me. Without even subduing his voice, he began to say that he heard me ( he heard the turkey that were working their way up with the deer) and that I was lucky he saw the smoke from my cigarette (turkey were long gone by this time).
It was like he was following me to see where the best spots may be. LIke the retarded fisherman that shoots his line into the same spot you have yours. And he could not keep quiet.
I think I'm going to keep my hunting there to weekday deer/turkey and nighttime coyote. Talked about perturbed.
