I disagree.

Every gun needs a firm grip.

Hold it like it can cause a problem for both the holder and the recipient, regardless of caliber.

Hold it firmly so it will function correctly.

If you limp wrist a .25 ACP how can you expect to hold a .500 Magnum?

Holding every gun expecting magnum level recoil will make you a better shooter.

How about the non-LE147 ammo?
Some 147s have large ogives, some barrels have short throats.
I wouldn't go nuclear if it is reliable with 115 or 124.

Ruger's have HUGE throats. I shoot .357 XTP's in mine loaded way out.

Some of the really long bullets will touch the slide stop on the Max 9 and can cause issues with the side locking back before the mag is empty. Its unlikely but maybe with that particular mag it was causing the bullet to hang up and cause a missfeed which was slowing the slide down enough that it didn't get into battery. I have shot hundreds of 147 HST's in mine because I got a huge box of factory seconds that I handload. I took mine apart and filed off about .020" from the slide stop which solved the side locking issue for me. I know you are not having the same symptom, but might have a similar cause.
