I'm looking for a way to make reliable, durable index marks on my scope dials, under the cap. Specifically for elevation. I have my 200 yrd zero and my BDC hold over mark, on the crosshairs, for 300. I know that I am 19 clicks from 200 to 400. (400 is the max for my projectile/MV combo.) I need to mark that dial, so that I can-relatively quickly-add on 19 clicks and land right on a 400 yrd zero. By marking my 200 and 400 yrd zeros, I can reliably move back to my normal 200 yrd zero.

Trouble is, most of the markers and sharpies on the market, even the "utlra fine" tips, are too wide and would mark several 1/4 MOA.

Redfield Revolution scope with dials like those of the Leupold Rifleman. (Made by Leupold.)

I use the ultra fine paint pens, I need the "fat" line to be able to see it (old eyes).

I put a fat line on both sides, turret and scope body, and can line up the two fat lines pretty easily.

I use different colors for more known zeros.

Your Redfield is made by Leupold. Assuming the turrets are the same there is a tiny brass ring with a small notch in it. Once your rifle is zeroed you can use the tip of a pen, knife or other small object to rotate that notch so that it lines up with the "0" on the turret. I have used this for a reference on Leupold scopes for years. You basically have built in dials; you just have to remove the scope cap and can easily return to zero. If the Redfield is different, then this won't work.

FYI if you have a Nikon scope there is an index mark on the post and the turret comes off with a hex wrench to index them.

I've literally taken my knife and cut a small hash mark in a few of my more basic units. The material is fairly soft and takes little effort. It's indelible.
