Indoor range "Concerns"

I took a hard rebound off a block of recycled plastic fake timber being used in lieu of a bowling pin. It was heavy from imbedded bullets but still resilient. Ouch.

Doctors do have a huge amount of knowledge, but not ALL the knowledge. Hopefully she would be open to being enlightened by a patient. If not, that would give you some ... insight ... into your choice of doctor.

On another note, thanks for the story about the salt block. I guess I’d never have thought that would be dangerous, an now I learned something.

Yeah, the salt block incident was scary, and also a surprising result...Another time also recall a local story of 2 kids, 16 y/o i want to say, shooting the side of a concrete Silo with a shotgun slug, from an unknown range, but it is rumored to have been "20 yards or so" the slug came back and put one of the boys in the hospital with a wound to his leg. He was messed up for awhile. Bullets can come back with force in the exact opposite direction. It can happen.

No indoor ranges for me either. Lead in the air is dangerous. Also, they pack the lanes in far too close. I also cannot Present/Fire, which is most of my shooting.

WOW...This thread reminds me how lucky I am to be a member of such a healthy outdoor rifle/pistol club. It is a 30 minute drive, but also near the best meat market around, so I do a bit of shopping too. Even outdoors I've been wearing ear muffs over custom ear plugs. With all the muzzle breaks on big rifles, the sound is horrific. I've only shot a few times at indoor ranges and hated the experience. Hope I never have to that again.

My outdoor club is the oldest in the state and is a four minute walk from the house.

Couple of times a months it opens the 600 yard rifle range. 200 yards is open the rest of the time.

And this is in densely populated suburban area.

Needless to say, it’s the safest range I have ever shot at.

And it has a bunch of woods where I can walk the dog. The dog loves it.

You are absolutely right which is why I dislike public ranges. I very much prefer my own, but even as such I have been hit. Worst one so far was not the jacket that cut my cheek, but the .45 slug that came back center of body just below the belt line. It had hit the steel plate, mushroomed the bullet but had not splattered it, so it bouced off of the swinger at a down and back angle. Hit hard dirt and came up center of body just below belt line, and hit with enough force to leave a bruise.

Im new with going to the range so I guess I've been lucky with going to indoor ranges? My usual haunt isn't very big at 6 lanes and they allow only most pistol calibers and 5.56 and 7.62x39 out of rifles no shorter than 16". Kinda sucks because Im sure my Henry 30 30 is no louder than an AR or AK and that's the reason why they limit calibers is because of sound. Im usually the only one in there since most folks buy a 50 rd box, shoot it in 15 minutes then leave, whereas im blowing thru 300 rds .22lr. The partitions are bullet proof and don't see too much damage. Though last visit im sure someone was using the bench as a rest with no rifle rest to lift it up higher and was hitting a targer but also hitting the steel track system as they did a mag dump. I'll just cross my fingers and knock on wood that's the worst I see

LGS has an indoor range.
I drive 45 mins one way to shoot at an outdoor club and even then I try to go weekday mornings to avoid people.
Safer.
