Indy 1500 Show

I went to the 1500 gun show on saturday. I could not believe all the people that were attending it. I wonder what a fire marshal would do if he saw all the crowds in the aisles. It was way too crowded. :cuss:

The Fire Marshall was there -- writing tickets for smoking! IMO, anyone who could manage to smoke in those aisles probably can wriggle out of a ticket just fine; it'd take a Houdini. Apparently as long as each and every one of us Refrained From Smoking, the tight-packed crowd was A-OK with the Fire Marshall, since --Heavens to Betsy! -- only cigarettes could start a fire. (Is the FM really Morals Police? Can't be, not considering some of the T-shirts and bumper stickers for sale, but still...)

One story making the rounds was that the vendors in the back room at the last show -- which was at the Marsh Pavillion, the big building to the East of where it is this weekend -- complained about very low traffic; there's only one hallway between the two sections of that building and not a lot of signage to remind folks to have a look. So the "1500" promoters had requested the smaller building. Then, with an RV show at the Fairgrounds the same weekend and the Colts playing Sunday, crowds for this one were a lot higher: a bad combination.

The consensus seemed to be that the crowding was caused by an unusual concatenation of factors. The next one is likely to be less crowded -- and might be a good place to look for deals.

An email from Indiana Dean says the Fairgrounds people moved the show, and it wasn't from vendor complaints, just "reasons unknown." He hears that the subsequent shows will be in that smaller hall for the rest of the year.

It makes at least as much sense as the earlier rumor. Guess we'll find out!

I was at the Indy show yesterday. It was very crowd. I found a few good deals, at least to me. I found a Smith Mod 60 and a Mod 19 for a fairly good price. I also found a .22LR conversion kit for a 1911 for a fair price. Got a case of .223 from the folks in the little room that was selling them for $118.

I picked up a nice looking dark brown fanny pack and does not look like a gun bag with pull apart zipper for the gun department. Also picked up a utility bag from the folks that was selling them in the small room for 16 bucks because I forgot mine at home. Turned out to be a nicer bag then I expected.

Talked to a guy about building me a holster for my Wave mulitool and Surefire. I have one for the Wave and Maglite but use the Surefire most now a days.

Also stopped at that gunshop in Kokomo on 31 on the way back home and found they was selling out Mini-14 mags for two for $10. Picked up eight of them.

Today the weather was great for playing with all the new toys I picked up yesterday. So it has been a pretty good weekend. I am thinking of going to the next one in March. I just about always find something of interest in most of the gun shows I go to. Never been to one yet I considered a waste of time.:)
