Hello, if this post seems familiar, that is because I have put it on another site to expand the number of eyes that see it.

I recently purchased a Marlin XT-17V, and was looking for a higher-power, inexpensive scope for it. I believe I have it narrowed down to 3 candidates, but was hoping some of you had actual experience with any of these. BTW I want to mount it on medium height rings, so that's why none are 50mm objectives.

Tasco Target/Varmint 6-24x40- This is the only one I have handled personally, and was quite impressed with the clarity considering the price. Compared it side by side with a BSA Sweet 17, and the Tasco looked superior to my eyes.

Simmons 44Mag 6-24x44- I have handled one of these in 4-12 power, and was pretty impressed by it. Have not been able to get one of the 6-24 in my hands though. This one had adjustable parallax on the side, and I really favor that, and it can be mounted lower than an A/O on the Bell.

Konus KonusPro 6-24x44- haven't handled this one either. Have looked through a few other Konus before, and I didn't think they looked bad. The A/O on the 44mm bell might mean it would need high rings though.

I know I'll, get the whole "pay more for your glass" spiel, and I typically agree. For my higher powered stuff, I am a Leopold/Weaver/Vortex junkie. But this is just a "fun gun." I intend to punch paper with it, and occasionally take it out and pop some squirrels and rabbits. I have no intentions of dropping it out of a tree, throwing it out my vehicle, or playing lawn darts with it, so the everlasting durability I demand with the scopes I put on my high power hunting rifles just isn't there.

Thanks!

Ive sold a lot of each over the years, and t be frank, they are all in the same arena. You may get a dud from time to time, but that happens at that price/quality ratio.

My personal vote goes for the Simmons 44 on the foundation that i don't think I ever saw one come back in returns for a "didn't like optics issue". Cant say that about the rest.

I put a Crossfire II 6-18x44 on my Savage A17. No problem seeing those tiny holes at 100 yards. Plus, I was tearing up prairie dogs at 200+ with it last year until the wind picked up
