Inexpensive Revolvers

Did I do okay?

S&W Model 10, 4" barrel, nickel-plated, but with some of it worn off in places. Five screw.

Seventy Five Dollars, as is. In a gunshop. In California.

The timing was a little off, so a gunsmith fixed it up and cleaned it real pretty for $100.

$175. And it shoots like a dream.

Still, if someone is a new shooter and unfamiliar with how to evaluate a used revolver, being able to get a Taurus or Rossi with a lifetime warranty can be a good option.

I agree with an earlier poster that the order of preference is Taurus, Rossi, and Charter.

It would help us, though, if we had an idea of your preference for caliber, size, budget, and your location.

General Geoff,

I checked it and then I checked again and it is now official....I'm jealous. Where did you find those two for $200? That is a bargain and then some. Nice find. I just picked up a model 10 with some honest use and a minty model 15. They are still at the shop awaiting the paperwork.

My friend's father passed away, and left him all his guns. He needed to find them good homes (he didn't have the room for all of 'em), so I stumbled upon them as a great deal. Excellent timing, as it happened the month after I turned 21. His dad carried the model 10 for many years (it came with a holster).

I passed on the wealth and sold the model 19 for $150 to my roommate who will shoot it much more than I would, and sold the model 10 to another friend for $100 since he was pining over it. They say charity is a virtue, but sometimes it hurts. :(

In my area (Raleigh/Durham NC) I have never even seen a S&W K-frame for under $350.

Sometimes, if you wait, you can find some decent deals. This year I have picked up a 4" nickle S&W 19-5 K-frame with the box for $300, a 4" S&W 13-4 K-frame for $325, a 4" S&W 520 N-frame for $360 and a 5" S&W 38-44 HD for $270.:D Granted, I don't live in Raleigh/Durham NC either.
