Has anyone had any experience with either of these at the range, or held one at the local gun shop?

Has anyone seen one at the local gun shop? And if so, what was the actual price (not the MSRP)?

It's a nice looking gun and I wanted one the second I laid my eyes on them, but I want to get some feedback on them before I run out and buy one instead of getting a less expensive (and maybe just as good, or even better?) polymer .45.

Also, have these just recently hit the market, or have they been out for several months now?

I also have a question; how’s the thickness of the grip compared to a Springfield XD 45?

I've got an HK USP .45c. While it has some interesting features, like the ability to be carried cocked and locked, I like my Sigs, and M&P better. You pay quite a premium for this gun, and I don't shoot as well as the above mentioned guns . The ergonomics are not as good as them either or the XD, tho not as bad as a Glock, and the magazine capacity is only 8 rounds. This is just my opinion of course, and I have a friend that loves to shoot my HK and does much less well than with the SIGs. If you are going to spend that kind of money, you should definitely do some careful comparison shopping. Shooting one would be a must to see how it fits you. I have been fortunate enough to get a lot of different handguns, and just reading about one or just holding it in the store might not tell you enough. I thought I would really like the Springfield XD until I bought one, The guy I sold it to just loves it and shoots the lights out with it. It is an individual choice based on what works for you. Beware of the fan boys who think that any make of gun is the only perfect answer for everyone, what works for them might work for you.

I have a full size HK45. I think I paid $903 for it. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I can't compare it to the XD45 as I haven't held one. The grip of the HK45 suits me just fine. This is a big gun. The finger grooves are a little more subtle that with the P30 and are less of a factor but feel just fine to me. The grip circumference is good for me, but I have medium/large hands. My reach to all control surfaces is excellent and I like the decock/safety and where it is on the frame. I also like the back slide decock of the P30 (and my P2000) but between it and the safety lever of the HK45 it is pretty much a toss-up.

I have to agree with Nelson that you should do some comparison shooting, especially when you are considering that pricepoint. The HK45 isn't for everyone as is the case with any pistol. And while I own and shoot numerous HK's I continue to view them as objectively as any other brand which is why I recently traded away a USP Compact that I found uncomfortable to hold.

Below is a photo of my HK45 with it's partner, the USC.

I bought a HK45 last week locally for $875. The grip feels amazing, almost as nice as the P30. I'm waiting for my CTAC holster to show up so I can make this my new CCW. And yeah I can conceal larger pistols.

I like it, I do not own one nor have I shoot one but I have looked at it and handled it several times. The grips feels great, it conforms to my hand perfectly and I just love it. The trigger is awesome too. A nice smooth crisp pull. The DA pull is a little heavy but it is so crisp it feels good to pull anyway so I could care less abut that. I either want this gun, an M&P 45, or Springfield TRP 1911. The only problem with this gun is trying to find a holster.

I've got a HK USP Compact .45 ACP. It was my first .45 cal gun and I love it. It has a bit more recoil than the 9mms I'm used to shooting (I have 6 of them). But of all the other .45 ACP I've shot (Kimber, Glock, Sig), I like the HK best. I think I picked it up new for $750ish, may have been slightly higher...been a while since I picked her up. Make sure to get atleast another magazine when you purchase it. It sucks having to reload after you empty mag. LOL!

But HK makes awesome firearms in general. You will not be sorry with your purchase! I shoot mine for often if ammo wasn't so high. D'Oh!

Hope that helped ya out dude. Good Luck, and Happy Shooting!
