The IR light is the least of your problems, just replace the LEDs in a visable LED light with IR LEDs. It's the glasses, called NVG (Night Vision Goggles) or "NOGS", good ones run 2+ grand and do not provide the wide angle vision needed for room clearing, and have no depth of field or depth perception. Depth of field means that things at various distances are in focus, NVGs only focus at a single distance at a time. Thus moving along a trail or through a house requires quite a bit of practice. Shooting with them is a whole different proposition as you really can't see the sight and the target at the same time so an IR laser sight is almost a must. My caveat is that I have never worn them in a combat situation but I have worn them for many hours in other moderate "pucker factor" situations. They are great for what they do, but what they do is somewhat limited.
