I know they make those IR flashlights that emit an invisable light, but with special glasses it lights up the room. Any practicality on slapping one of these lights on a HD shotgun? You could basically clear your house without turning on a single light and be able to see just fine.

The IR light is the least of your problems, just replace the LEDs in a visable LED light with IR LEDs. It's the glasses, called NVG (Night Vision Goggles) or "NOGS", good ones run 2+ grand and do not provide the wide angle vision needed for room clearing, and have no depth of field or depth perception. Depth of field means that things at various distances are in focus, NVGs only focus at a single distance at a time. Thus moving along a trail or through a house requires quite a bit of practice. Shooting with them is a whole different proposition as you really can't see the sight and the target at the same time so an IR laser sight is almost a must. My caveat is that I have never worn them in a combat situation but I have worn them for many hours in other moderate "pucker factor" situations. They are great for what they do, but what they do is somewhat limited.

Nope. Gotta agree with jrhines, I don't want to be fumbling around in the dark for NVG's when things go bump in the night.

a LED or Xenon flashlight is cheap and does the job where a firearm mounted light is needed. I guess it would falll under the K.I.S.S. rules.

Gimme a short SG or 1911 and a hand held flash light ove IR any day.
Last thing I need is a prosecutor saying " If he had time to find and put on night vision goggles, he had time to call 911."

Put a small night light in a couple rooms, get a dependable flash light and go from there.

I think your right, I guess I was thinking more on the 'cool' side then anything else... I do want to put on a forend rail of some sort for a normal light, any ideas on where I can get a good one? Preferably I'd like one of the heavy duty 3 way forends so I can mount a handle on the bottom and a light on the side, like they use in the military.
