Anybody have some firsthand experience with the Insight M6X vs the Streamlight TLR-2 light/laser combo?

I’ve got an Insight M6X on my existing AR (mounted on a bayonet lug mount)-plan on putting a similar unit on my new AR, but thinking ‘bout going with the TLR-2 instead of another M6X.

I have no complaints with the M6X, but thought I might go with the Streamlight since it has a metal body and LED vs the M6X plastic body and bulb.

Called Streamlight today and they say their new C4 LED (130 lumens) will not start shipping on the TLR-2 until the end of October-I see the TLR-1 (light only) advertised as having 130 lumens so apparently it’s already shipping with the new LED. The new LED will put the TLR-2 on par with the M6X AFA light output.

Weighing the TLR-2 and M-6X

Hi Basic,

I've used both and here my impressions.

Advantages to TLR-2 over M-6X:
More compact/smaller unit
Controls are easier to manipulate
Laser has no "fringing" effect that seems to affect some of the Insight devices
It seems more robust (I've broken neither, just my impression)
Reflector design gives more peripheral light than the Insight

Advantage to M-6X over TLR-2:
Lighter weight
The built-in laser adjustment tool is great
Less expensive on Ebay
LED is noticeably brighter at the center - I think this is partly due to reflector design and partly to the LED - the C4 will make an interesting comparison to the M-6x

Overall, both good units. I prefer the Streamlight because I find it easier to use and like the peripheral light it casts for home enviros. If you need "throw" for your light, down very long hallways or alleys, the M-6X takes the prize.

Thanks for the reply.

I went out of town yesterday and stopped by a store that carried both so I could compare.
At this time, it looks like I'll probably get another M6X, a large part of that reason being I already have one so the controls will be the same for both guns.

What I've found so far:
TLR-2
(Think) I Like the TLR-2 toggle switch better than the selector knob on the M6X.
Metal body better than plastic? (could be a toss-up)
LED durability vs M6X bulb (although the X series is supposed to be "shock proof")
M6X
Can vary focus-dealer and I fiddled with the TLR-2 and I don't think it can be focused-looked like the front just screws off. For some reason, I see few LEDs that can?
Definitely like the ease of adjustment with the laser/tool-didn't even look at the TLR-2 on that score since I've 'bout decided on the M6X.
More light (gonna haff to wait on the TLR-2 with the new LED to match the M6X).

Guess now my main decision is whether to get the long gun mount on the M6X or another standard unit like I currently have? My current one is mounted on a KZ bayonet lug adapter.

BTW...been playing with the M6X in conjunction with both a TA01 ACOG and EOTech 557 & 4X magnifier and it's pretty darn impressive how far out at night you can see with the M6X's 125 lumens viewed through the scopes!
