Bought a fixed sight slide for my S&W M639 from a member on another forum, a spare barrel of Ebay. The new slide and barrel wouldn't go on my pistol, saw the recoil spring and rod were not parallel to the barrel, found the radiused cut where the base of the rod is to fit was not cut properly, too shallow and narrow. The seller takes returns, so back it goes.

If that cut you describe is the one where the guide rod nests against the projection at the bottom/rear of the barrel (under the chamber), is it a new manufacture barrel or from parted-out gun?

Stay safe.

Looks factory, stamping is identical to my original barrel, no other marks. Only after market M639/659 barrels I know of were Bar-Sto, they are no longer made.

Hmm. I am wondering if the original owner had the same issues and is selling it for that reason. 🤔

I hope you can find one that works.

Stay safe.

Bought 3 more from the same vendor-he had a good price. Bad QC day at the factory.

It looks like there were to different variants of the S&W 639???

Interesting, though it's not clear what changed between the two versions, save the safety and trigger guard. Smith isn't as anal as Glock with its markings.

Did all of them experience fitment issues?
You were hoping to be rid of the adjustable sights, and the big, protective ears? I can understand that; they do effect the lines of a really handsome pistol. I've a blued version of the same pistol.

None of them fit. Bought the fixed slight side for fun, the M639/659 being out of production for over 30 years I figured a good time to acquire spare barrels, etc.
The barrels looked factory, the fit, finish stampings identical to my originals.
