Yup. Rather helpful. Shows what a big difference bullet weight makes, among other things.

Thanks, Ogre! Very useful information. I downloaded the Excel spreadsheet, and was able to save it in Microsoft Works and Quattro Pro versions without trouble.

George,
The chart is universal and doesn't depend on caliber.

All it illustrates is that by doubling the weight, you double the energy,,,but if you double the velocity, you quadruple the energy.

Yeah for example you can apply one bullet wieght to different calibers by velocity. ie 185 grain bullets across 40S&W, 10mm, 45ACP, 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum, etc.

Neat little chart.

"The chart is universal and doesn't depend on caliber."

True. But Energy has very little to do with a bullet or load's effectiveness. It might indicate which one might penetrate deeper given same bullet type and caliber... but that's about it.

T'is but one small piece of a very large puzzle.

What someone was kind enough to do was translate the energy formula into a graph form for,,,,from what I can see,, handgun weights and velocities.

Here's another link:

http://www.firearmexpertwitness.com/customguns/calcnrg.html

which provides a calculator type format to figure energy if you want to figure other non handgun stuff.

WheelMan,
There really is no top of the chart,,so to speak.
