So 2 nights ago a bunch of hoodies were walking down the street shooting stuff with BB guns (those clear ones that shoot the steel bb's you get from Walmart). They shot our house (that we rent) so my mum called 911 around 8ish (which is when it starts getting really dark here). They asked some standard questions, then asked about damage. Our house has vinyl siding (which did take some damage) but we couldn't see anything at night. So mum hung up when she was done talking to the cops, and we NEVER heard from them the rest of the night.

Next morning we see the three holes punched into the siding of the house. Mum decides she's going to press charges on the Hoodies (don't actually know the teenagers names, except that they like to walk around selling drugs and the cops could care less here). She calls up the police again. Supposedly the officers they sent out never made contact.

Let me tell you something about our neighborhood, when a cop comes by, you see the insects (people) scatter like someone turned on a light. Also we live right next to a large chunk of cheap apartment type housing, that gets raided on a bi-monthly basis, we've got a fairly good house though. There were NO cops around that night.

The lady sends over an officer, which turned out to be a whole new bundle of joy. A few months back a bunch of new officers were put into circulation and they...could use more training. This guy had no idea what he was supposed to do. It gets even better though. The whole time were talking to him, the ENTIRE time, he's switching his hands from writing the report, to staring at me and fondling his sidearm, which was unstrapped. Now I'm a fairly big guy (6'4,245,lost some weight recently to :) ) and I was specifically standing back and in a non-threatening manner. I still find that unacceptable and wholly unprofessional. I understand that I could be seen as a threat, but that's just taking it a bit to far. Better yet he hardly finishes the report when we told him we actually rented the place, and weren't the owners, just kinda took a few more bits of info them ambled off.

This entire situation has my grandfather furious. He ends up going to the station and reaming the chief a new one,at least that's what it sounds like. Today my mum got a call from said Chief and was fed a bunch of BS lines, with no apology.

Call 911 about a bunch of vandals, wait a few days, get told theres nothing to do about it. Because if you call 911 about a break in, might as well start praying if you're not prepared to help yourself.

there is absolutely no reason for him to see you as a threat......

assuming you were talking and acting calmly (which it sounds like you were)......and the fact that YOU called the police to come by to check up on a non-violent report (violence applying to your actions).......there is no reason for him to suspect that you would pose a threat to him.

all that said...
the fact that the kids actions werent "life threatening"......it is entirely possible that at the time you called, the available units were responding to more critical calls......

the least they should have done is filed a report and hope they catch the kids that did it.......but unless they come by doing it again, those chances are really slim.....

Cool story, bro
Oh come now, seems like although his story may be non-alarming or any of that jazz to some it seems to have concerned the OP to take some sort of action and write up the results here.
Doesn't seem very highroad.

To the OP:
Although BB guns can do harm, it seems like the cops are kinda putting this whole deal off as 'kids will be kids' even though those little hoodlums in a little while will be running amok in polite society. Possibley with something a bit more potent than a BB gun.
When I was younger, we used to live in an area like that. From what I recall, the cops couldn't give a less of a hoot concering the people in the area. The only reason why they would even bother taking anything remotely seriously is if someone would've gotten killed, but then only because they had to do their paperwork. :barf:

I think the best course of action considering your situation would be to set up a documentation of their activities. If you have credible proof (photos and logs and such) you can eventually have enough evidence to give to the cops about their illicit activities and perhaps have them actually do something about it.

Best of luck.

I learned in the early '70s that the police don't protect individuals and since then I've seen nothing to contradict that lesson.

Either be prepared to protect YOURSELF, or don't expect to get protected AT ALL.

in most cases like this they are totally useless.

i bet that if you were to try to do something about it yourself though(since no one else will), THEN they would come and it would be YOU in trouble.
