Are any of the internal ballisitics programs, free or otherwise, accurate in predicting muzzle velocity vs. barrel length?
I saw a demo of a fairly extensive program that graphed the pressure curves, again estimated, for a custom load or else had some factory load info stored in it; that made me think it would be at least a good starting point if not accurate as well.
I cringe every time I hear the usual 'you'll lose/gain about 50 or so fps per inch of change...'
Well, it isn't necessarily so. But actual data is hard to come by.
If anyone has one of these programs i'd love to hear your evaluation of it.
Right now i am only interested in 2 surplus loads for the 7,92x57 mauser cartridge (the 198gr sS and the 154gr Turkish) from barrel lengths 29" down to 16".
