my FFL is no longer in business. So I was looking for a new one, and I was searching gunbrokers list. some list flat fees, some list a document fee and a background check fee. Do you have to add them together to get a total? or is the background check fee for nervous dads with daughters?

There is no minimum fee for a transfer. Whatever the FFL holder wants to charge is their decision. I don’t charge veterans or teachers for a transfer. Cabelas in Kearney, Nebraska was charging $25 per firearm even though the “work” is the same for one firearm to a buyer as it is for three or four as long as there aren’t two or more handguns involved in the same transfer. There is one exception to this. If two or more handguns are transferred within five business days then another form has to be filed by the license holder. Copies of that form go to the ATF, the county law enforcement chief (which is usually the sheriff) and the original stays with the FFL holder.

The listed fees are for doing the transfer and background check. How the fees are listed vary. Some FFL's charge different rates for long guns and hand guns. Some break out the fees and some don't. Some give a discount for multiple firearms transferred under a single background check. Here in Wisconsin there's a backgound check fee for a hand gun transfer but no fee for a long gun. I suggest it's best to just add everything listed to get what you'll pay for transfer of one firearm. Or contact the FFL.

I'd contact the FFL directly. I know some of my regular places their current rate doesn't match what's listed on some sites FFL finders or they may not even exist anymore

I'll bet that Walts Outdoor World doesn't do a lot of transfers.
I'll guess that the "document fee" is for filling out the 4473, and if you have a Texas LTC there wouldn't be a need for the additional "$10 Background Check" fee.

Ive always recommended getting the transfer fee quote in person, but in this case it isn't exactly clear.

or is the background check fee for nervous dads with daughters?
Huh?

It looks to me like it's just a side business for them. Being a gun store and an FFL isn't their main business. I've learned the hard way that it's worth it paying a few bucks extra to have an FFL where it's their main (or only) business do your transfers. They know best how to make things go smooth.

Some charge a fee for the transfer (call it what you will) then another for NICS
Used to be $25 for the transfer and then $5 for NICS total $30 (example)

Walts is pretty good on the fees.

Did you try Superior? Sometimes they don't show up but they do gunbroker.

Walt's is going to be $15 since I have my chl. At least until it expires in August. He's just around the corner. I'll give him a try. Now I just need to decide, tikka t1x, or Christianson ranger......
