Invitation to new forum

While Blackhole Forums has been around for nearly a year, it has not been viewable unless you were a member. Recently with our membership breaking 500 members, we opened up the board so that you don't have to be a member to read it.

I've been a long time reader & member of many forums, and we developed blackhole to be a fun place to go to discuss everything from guns, knives, computers, survival, law, politics, religion to model rockets. And of course there is a marketplace.

You'll find many familiar names and faces there, as many of our members are members & mods at places like THR, TFL, Glocktalk, etc.

We are in no way in competition with any other forum. We are very broad in our content...with sections for religion, computers, food, gear, etc.

And if you have any suggestions, please post in the Tech Support section of Blackhole, and we'll be more than happy to make changes.

I really didn't want to register for ANOTHER forum...I must browse 20 everyday.
But...I just got kinda sucked in, ya know?

Also, I don't know about everyone else, but not being able to view a forum as a guest keeps me from registering 9 times out of 10. You don't have to let them post, just let them look.

You can view it as a guest, for those very reasons.

And typically we have a less than 1 hour turn around time for new activations.

Every now and then someone does not get the email that the software sends out to activate you. If this happens, just email me directly ([email protected]) and I'll make sure you get activated promptly.

I'm able to access it now, but I could not figure out how to view the forum as a guest.

If you just go to "Forum Login" from the index page it'll take you straight to http://www.theblackhole.us/forum and without logging in you are a guest user and can browse / read.

We have chosen to not allow free email services...Its not you specifically, just yahoo accounts. If you continue to have trouble PM or email me directly.

I like the looks of your Blackhole forum a lot. I registered today, and it seems like there are some interesting discussions going on there.

As always, I decided to read the rules of the forum before posting, and this part really shocked me:

Official Code of The Blackhole, Please Read.
1. General Provisions:
A. Linking to other forums shall be prohibited.

Not a bad rule, and one you see on forums pretty frequently - but since you wrote the rules, I have to admit it made me wonder. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of posting links to other forums, doesn't that make this thread on THR seem a little... inconsistent?

Actually I don't remember the last time we said anything about a link to other boards. Its actually one particular board we didn't want links to, and we'll change the rules accordingly. (note, that particular board isn't here or TFL, we like THR and TFL).

That makes sense. It might just be that it came across more strongly than you'd intended simply because it's Section 1 Rule A, you know?

It's a lot like banning guns because some people mis-use them.
Yahoo email addresses are very easy to get...
So when a troll or whatever comes to a forum and says "hah, I will troll this forum...don't want to use my real email to register though," so he'll make a fake one on Yahoo and register for the forum.
Unfortunatly, there are ways around it...most of them involve other free email services.
Such as Gmail. =)

The minute I see this I just go away. If my Yahoo address isn't good enough, then that's that. I rarely give my ISP address to anyone. Of course on Yahoo I get 50 spams a day and on my ISP I get none. Hmmmm, I wonder why that is?

We are right now very hesitantly allowing Gmail, in fact, that was also on the not-allowed list for a long time.

And you summed it up perfectly on why we want to stay away from the free email accounts. What we tried to do is create a different type of place. And just like THR, TFL, CPF, etc...we are not in the business of selling addresses for spam. Our user accounts are not open to anyone for viewing.

The only reason we are allowing Gmail accounts right now is because I put up this invitation here. If you just absolutely don't have any other email account, as it says, just contact us...

Oh God!! Not another vBulletin forum. I must be a member of like 50 of those. Oh well i'll take the plunge into the black hole. I had no problem using my free email account. Like always at every forum I belong to my name is Maser there.
