Was watching a news segment this am and they were showing numerous young men shooting various weapons from Ak's to heavy vehicle mounted guns. Others are standing next to the shooters and No one is wearing any kind of ear protection. I don't know why but it struck me because most of us wouldn't think of shooting [other than in a self defense situation] without wearing "ears".

They are used to it now for two long years . US CIA is now pumping more arms into the rebel side so more bang bang bang boom boom boom and no end in sight.

If I shoot a mag without ears, my head is ringing for an hour. Not making a joke here and I realize they are in a shooting war, but day after day I can't believe they can hear anything. O well.

Nobody ever did until quite recently, and we never thought much of it. Paying the price now, though.

"Arabs can't seem to organise anything without a great deal of shouting", my brother recalled, "most of it directed at me."

Mk VII;8831937 "[I said:

This is what I thought when I read the thread's title.

Probably. Hearing loss is higher in third world nations:

Developing World

Across the globe, more than 100 countries are considered “developing countries” and these same countries contain some 80 percent of the world’s population, as well as 2/3 of the hearing impaired population. Obtaining accurate figures in the developing world is difficult as records are scarce and the population with hearing impairment is huge. CBM (2011) estimates that out of the 600 million hearing impaired worldwide, 400 million reside in developing countries.

Lets make it a "Hearts, Minds, and Ears" campaign where we airdrop earplugs with airline style diagrams on how to use them.

I actually didn't lose my hearing overseas. I lost the most of it at the qualifying range before going overseas. That is what happens when your NBC mask pops out your left ear plug during a qual and you don't notice. Good news when I took my makeup PHA last week about my hearing loss was downgraded from 30% to 25% so that was worth a cold one.

This is an issue mr. Bloomberg and mr. Cuomo should take up immediately, as in move there and push an agenda of common sense hearing protection laws for middle eastern "freedom fighters".

I try to get to all the rallies, I have been to Albany, Syracuse, & the Salisbury town hall with Tom King and assemblyman Mark Butler. So to answer I will definitely try to be there as well to support the cause.

If we're looking to help, can we also send them sights for their rifles? Every video I see it seems like none of their sights work and they've just given up on trying...

Maybe that is why you never see pictures of X-Box, Nintendo Wii, etc in the various global war zones. The kids are already playing real life games with real guns.

The Irony

owen.... well why were they shooting? you know there's a couple of wars going on over there, right?

Ranger Roberts ....The middle east certainly didn't help my hearing at all.

Garak....All WW2 veterans I knew had some sort of hearing damage, so yeah.

You find yourself in a place with more bangs, booms, blasts, from all manner of explosive devices, from small arms to artillery, to rockets and thousand pound bombs,, and one of the most dangerous things you can do is wear ear protection.

I ended my second tour of Vietnam three months early because a Navy doctor decided my hearing loss made it too dangerous for me to participate in ambushes. I did not argue. ;)

It appears to me, every time they want to celebrate something, the first thing they do is blast off a 50 rd. magazine of ammo from their AK, straight up. No wonder they can't hear us!
