Is it really “OCD”??

I first cleaned my brass in a gallon pickle jar with the old NRA method of water, salt, and dish soap I believe. Then I got a vibratory tumbler and used lizard litter and NuFinish for many years and then got a FART and now I go for the bling. All methods worked well and produced clean enough brass, but now having brass that looks like it was just made, finding cracks or flaws is easier, seeing the powder in the case is easier, and there maybe be an additional sense of pride in seeing how darn pretty my ammo looks when loaded.

Either way you choose, it only has to be “clean enough“ to do the job. My first way was real affordable, the next was a bit more expensive, and the last was gratuitous and just nice to have.

Yeah............
I don'y have any qualms about how anyone else does/likes it.
I think the corncob and NuFinish makes 'em plenty clean as to not "dirty" up the press, yet slick enough to help with sizing and such............................(yes, your fav lube is still needed for bottleneckers)................
Being in corn country I wonder, do you know you're not supposed to throw the entire cob in the tumbler? And never eat it afterwards.

" I LIKE CLEAN GUNS AND I LIKE CLEAN BRASS"..............................................................................sounds like a song in the making....................

I... Like... Clean brass, and I cannot lie,
You other loaders can't deny,
When that shiny brass kicks in your face,
(I'll just leave it there...)

Next poll question: Do dirty firearms shoot better?

Well, there are three questions there:

1) Is it really ODC? No, but some folks enjoy drama and being dramatic. Mayo Clinic has better information on the actual disease.
2) What do y'all think? That mental health issues are not all that funny...
3) Other than aesthetics is there any advantage to squeaking brass vs just clean enough brass? No, but I like shiny anyway.
And there's a fourth question—where did you learn to spell OCD?

(C’mon it’s a joke and a funny one at that.)

I must get this out in the open. I sometimes polish an entire cartridge like in this picture.

The cases had been wet and dry tumbled but for some reason there were smudges on a couple. So, out comes the Flitz and as long as I was doing some, I did all. Look at those bullets, not just the cases!

Those are absolutely lawyer-proof. They won't be able to keep focus on the case at hand, being blindsided by such a distraction! ;)

Personally the only advantage to really shiny brass is to find it after a semiauto ejects the empties. I don't clean mine until it's shiny, and simply clean it until they're clean inside and out. That's about 2 hours in my wet rotary tumbler with a little dishwashing soap squirted into the water. It comes out clean inside and out, and would probably take another 30-45 minutes to be pretty. But pretty means nothing to me, so I don't go that far.

Only if the firearm's name starts with AK. ;)

Which reminds me.....I shoot better for sure when I've had a bath......so maybe that goes for firearms.....
That said, I also shoot better when I'm in a good mood......shooting blinged ammo helps with that for sure.....

I found some information on OCD from Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases...pulsive-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20354432

The funny this is, if you scroll down to "Compulsion Symptoms" you get:
  • Washing and cleaning.
  • Checking.
  • Counting.
  • Ordering.
  • Following a strict routine.
There may not be a better description of reloading anywhere!
Well that lets me out. I do that stuff only when I have to.......so maybe it applies to only "GOOD" reloaders. ;) Right now my reloading room is not a model of order. Always a new project that makes a mess.

So maybe it’s a good disorder? 🤪
Given the way some of the “normal people” act I’m thinking maybe it’s okay to be a little Abby Normal.

It certainly checks all the boxes.

(Now, can you please tell me how to print this so I can actually check all the boxes?)

Weren't you an OTR trucker? Haven't you listened to everything already?

I can quote many of my audiobooks nearly verbatim.

If I would have been stuck listening to the radio, or even music... 10-15 hours a day, 7 days a week... I would have gone insane. Talk radio helped, but audiobooks allowed me to exercise my mind, all the while learning a thing or two.

Because we are into an election season, I have to put talk radio aside... I can only take so much talk of politics. Audiobooks for the win...

You’re going to have to define “dirty.”

Certainly a tongue-in-cheek rhetorical question...

You may find a podcast or two that you find intresting. I do a lot of space stuff, listening to breakthroughs with the James web... the vortex podcast can be good, their "10 minute" talks are good. Never ever 10 minutes, and not about their scopes as you would expect.

You may find this interesting... I've never listened to a podcast in my life. I don't even know how to do it, or find them.
They are also on youtube...
