Is it necessary or required to have your card on you? If it's relevant, I'm a Missouri resident.

I got mine on a separate Non-driver photo ID, otherwise they would expire my driver's license in only 3 years instead of 6.

I'm thinking, if it's not absolutely necessary, I have two photo ID's, and keeping them both in the same place (wallet) exposes them to the same risk of loss, while separating them reduces the hassle involved in the event my wallet were ever lost or stolen. I'm just looking at not putting all the eggs in the one proverbial basket, the same way I have several credit cards, but only carry two or three while the others are locked in the safe.

A driver's license is valid, even if you don't have the card on you, I'm just wondering if a CCW permit is the same way.

In MI, you must have it on you at all times. First infraction is a fine, second they take it (I think). Also, in MI, if you're driving, you better have your DL on you, otherwise that's a fine too. I assumed every state had that law for DL's. Not sure about CCW permits.

Notably in WA, failure to be in possession of your CPL is not a criminal offense from what I can tell, it's a class 1 civil infraction, like a mean ticket I guess.

(b) Every licensee shall have his or her concealed pistol license in his or her immediate possession at all times that he or she is required by this section to have a concealed pistol license and shall display the same upon demand to any police officer or to any other person when and if required by law to do so. Any violation of this subsection (1)(b) shall be a class 1 civil infraction under chapter 7.80 RCW and shall be punished accordingly pursuant to chapter 7.80 RCW and the infraction rules for courts of limited jurisdiction.

I guess I should clarify that. I've been stopped a time or two in years past, (have always held a valid license) when I didn't have the card on me, and they just asked for my DL# and verified it over the phone. I didn't any sort of ticket for not having it on me, but that may have been a result of being in a small town where they knew me by name anyway.

I don't know if it bears relevance, but I don't carry that frequently. I just got it, mostly on principle. I like knowing I'm legally permitted to exercise that right, even if I rarely choose to do so. I also like that I can wear an OWB holster on a trip to the range, and not accidentally commit a felony if my coat covers the holster.

It's also (like so many other things) better to already have it if/when you suddenly need it.

For the purposes of the original question, consider that I am carrying. Obviously, the point is moot if the gun is left at home.
