Is it worth loading for a 480 Ruger?

What happens when you can't buy factory ammo? .....call me crazy but I think I remember when we couldn't buy 22s or primers or powder

.....or ammo during a pandemic!

Reload and be prepared. I never ran out of ammunition during the last shortage. I don't shoot much 22RF anyway, I can reload 38 Special wadcutters for near the same price.

You are far more likely to be able to find 480 Ruger ammo on a shelf during a buying panic than you will find powder or primers.

Dollar cost average your way into a sufficient stockpile of ammo. It’s a low volume revolver for him, not a big deal if he had a couple hundred rounds on hand and can’t buy ammo for 4-6mos... But again - 480’s not going to be affected by panics like other cartridges, and the components which can make other cartridges...

Provided you can enter a place that has it- right now the wonderful idiot governor of NY has closed ALL the gunshops- in NYS and Walmart doesn't have much selection!

However- I agree with you about the volume of shooting in this situation- ....for me....I want lots of options

These are all valid points and I do appreciate the input.

But as said 480 Ruger ammo is not in short supply. It's not common, and it is expensive, and you don't just find it everywhere, but it is available even now, while 9mm and 223/556 is sold out or in very short supply at many places.

And I don't have to enter any place to buy it, I can get it online. May take a few weeks, or longer, but it's available. It seems that finding the bullets I want is the hard part right now. I can find bullets to load very easily, just not the exact ones I want.

For myself I shoot my 44 spl and 44 mag often, so reloading makes sense to me.
If I had a 480 Ruger I would reload for it, because I like to reload.
I do see the point of view of not reloading a cartridge that is seldom used, time is a valuable thing.
