I reloaded my first "batch" of 9mm, twenty-five rounds on my Dillon 550b...The first 10-12 rounds no probs..then about every third round or so it would not completely eject, stovepipe...After clearing all would be fine for 5-5 rounds then happen again...I then switched to factory ammo for twenty-rounds with no probs... I was shooting my wifes 9mm LadySmith..
My loads were:

1.) Wincester Brass
2.) Winchester FMJ RN 115Grain
3.) W231 at 4.5 Grain
4.) COL 1.135

Was the loads too light..?? Too much of a crimp..?? Any advice would be appreciated before brewing a second batch...Thanks..:D

According to my Speer manual 4.5 gr of 231 is a starting load up it .2 gr and see what happens. 231 is not the best powder for 9 mm but it is economical to use. Try unque or universal clays you might have better luck with those powders

Increase the load a bit.
Depending on things like bullet, barrel, and chamber matchup, and how cautious their lawyers are, there have been published loadings up to 5.2 grains of W231 for 115 grain bullets.

I have one chronographed load of
9mm P 115 gr R-P JHP + 4.8 gr Win 231 = 1147 fps
which is about factory equivalent.
I now load the same with HP38 which Hodgdon gets from St Marks off the 231 production line and get 1138 fps.

With that charge and oal, your pressures and velocity are just bit low, hence the incomplete functioning of you load. In other words, TOO LIGHT.

Shorten the OAL to 1.125" oal, and load 4.9-5.0.

This with the Rem 115 gr JHP (even more bullet inside case than FMJ) is still the most accurate load for my S&W PPC-9. It will occasionally give sub 2-MOA groups at 25-50yds from a Ransom Rest. I've won a lot of matches with this loading using Starline Brass, which is much more consistent than the Winchester.
Velocities are:
1,170 from 4"
1,200 from 5"
1,220 from 6"

Precision Delta used to load this in their 9mm Match ammo, and many PPC National records set with it still stand.

An OUTSTANDING 9mm load with match grade bullets. For best accuracy try the Hornady RN's or Sierra's.

I load 115 grain JHP over 4.8 to 5.0 grains of W-231 and prime it with a WSP. I seat the Winchester bullet at 1.100 and it cycles a Firestar (a very heavy slide for it's size) with no problem. I agree...Up the powder charge and shorten the OAL.

My wife had the same problem when I loaded the Rainier 115 gr TMJ with 4.5 gr bullseye. Upped the load to 4.8gr and it cycled fine. I could shoot the 4.5gr loads no problem, but she could not. She does have the mass that I do to hold the pistol firm enough to cycle the lighter loads. Loads can be gun and user specific. Inch up the power charge and that will probably fix it or you could use them for clearing drills :D
