Is Part Of My AR Gas System Worn Out?

Hi All-

I noticed powder residue has collected all of the sudden on the gas tube, barrel, in the handguard, so I inspected the gas block/tube and noticed the tube looks worn out (?) where it meets the gas block. Do I replace the tube, gas block or both? Sorry, this was my first AR, and I've never had this issue.

Thanks!

Your getting some gas leakage which is normal. It does look like you may have a alignment problem by looking at the scratches, minor.

Check to see if the gas block is still tight to the barrel, 2 screws or clamp. These can loosen and cause gas leakage at the barrel port. If unchecked it can plasma cut the gas block and barrel port. I use a sealant when I put them together to keep them from leaking. Fit is the most important to not having any leaks.

Thanks, yes the block is tight.

The only thing that wears out in the gas system of an AR are the piston rings
