Is s&w still making the sigma series?

I don't think any of us shooter's deserve to be part of R.&D. but that's the way all most all gun companies seem to do things! At lest S&W has a good costumer service department. Try Taurus! I had to send one auto pistol back 7 times before I finally got the LGS owner to trade it for something else! What a nightmare! Look at the Colt .45 1911, it went thru some changes as it was improved. Even Glock is in it's 4th.Gen.! I believe some lemons get by C.S. and Q.C. needs to be spoken to when you get lemon & something should be done to correct the problem. If that is what happened &you got no response then a letter to the C.E.O. would be in order. To bad you got a lemon, but it happens! Not saying it's right! It's not! That why a letter to C.E.O. needs to be sent. Hope you have better luck next time!

Ergos

I know this is a slightly older thread, but not too old, so I'm going to risk reviving it. I'm looking to add a SD pistol to my SW 642 - could conceivably even trade the latter, but probably not.

Right now, my top two pics are a Glock 19 and the SW SD9VE. The latter is in my budget soon (months), the latter is not.

The other factor is the ergonomics. I held (did not fire) a G19, and while I could make it work, it felt like a brick in my smaller hands. I've read in several places that the SD9's have better "ergos". Just above in this thread, I read this:

Glocks are great guns, but don't feel natural in my hand. I much prefer the ergonomics of the SD.
I've been looking for more specifics in terms of descriptions or pictures, and found a few. The SD looks to be less blocky, more rounded edges, more real estate for smaller hands.

Can someone comment, please?

Eventually, I'll try an SD on for size, but the nearest shop that handles them is 100 mi away, and I have no vehicle right now. So not easy. Just doing my homework.

Thanks in advance.

Check Cabela's if you have one close. They got the revised Sigma (SD) Smith and Wesson on sale for around $349 this weekend.

My experience with the sigma 9mm VE is perfect function as was the experience of a colleague. I have thought of a trigger job, but do have reservations against weakening the striker spring. In my glock the other day have multiple failures to fire with 9 mm steel case berdan wolf. not at all unusual to encounter hard primers in the 9mm and I always want a hard strike against the primer. There are some other springs that are stronger than is needed, but I will wait a bit prior to doing any work. The main point with a very heavy trigger pull it is hard to hit a small target such a poisoness snake's head. I can handle the DA of most revolvers better than I can that of the Sigma. Revolvers such as nagant of course are much worse.

They are decent home defense guns for the dollar, GM has them on sale for $329. They are not in the same class with a Glock or M & P, the triggers are pathetic and the trigger safety is simply not. But they in no way compare to a Glock, Glocks have machined slides with a Rockwell C 59-60 hardness rating tennifer finnish, the Sigma SD's have cast slides and much cheaper components.

They are decent values, but I see more Sigma-SD's traded in for serious guns than about any other name brand model. Customers just plain out grow them. I personally think the Ruger P95 is a far better value. While it's clunky, it's far more solid. For occasional shooters who want a HD gun, the Sigma, SD's are decent values. For carry or a a gun that is going to get serious range time, moving up to a Ruger SR, Glock, Smith M & P, or Springfield XD is worth every dime of cost difference.

I don't think were discussing the .380 gun that has been out of production for a long time. This is a discussion of the 9MM/.40S&W SIGMA/SD.

I would think it is unlikely the SIGMA slides are cast or MIM.

The ergonomics of the SD are much better than the Glock of which I have also. I like the feel of the SD better. I just put nite sites on my SD & carry it often! I think you will be happy with it & if not you can trade up! For the money you get a good reliable pistol. Its not perfect but neather is a glock! Some people hate them! Try the SD & I believe you will not regret it!
