I'm looking at picking up a Sig 556 and I want to stock up on some ammo as the prices are doing nothing but going up.

Anything I should look for or avoid?

Haven't had any issues with it

Beware it is a very heavy gun with all the rails on it.

My isn't but my barrel has a 1 in 7 twist so 55gr isn't the best choice. It likes 62 grain Brown Bear just fine so I don't think its really picky about what ammo you feed it but a heavier bullet will help your accuracy.

Mine does not like light bullet loads. What was SIG USA thinkin putting a 1/7 twist barrel on the rifle??:cuss:

That said, mine runs fine on Russky ammo as long as it is 62 gr +. As stated, it is a heavy rifle but it functions well with anything I have fed it. YMMV

1/7 twist is just fine. You just need to find what ammo your rifle likes.

Thanks for the info guys. Damn the luck, I just purchased about 400 rounds of 5.56 55 grain yesterday. I guess I'll start looking for some heavier stuff now.

I wouldn't sweat the 55gr, I can shoot sub MOA with a Aimpoint at 100 yards with my friend's 556 shooting 55gr, you shouldn't have too many problems with the light rounds if you're keeping it under 200.

That would be very impressive for a optic that has a 4 MOA dot using 55 grain ammo in this rifle. You must be very good. :)

Ha, sorry I meant Accupoint, not aimpoint. :)
