While we're on the subject of whining and complaining about all things political and such.

Can I ask a simple question? Is someone holding a gun to peoples' heads here on THR that forces them to read certain threads and then make further comment?

I understand the frustration with the same items, whether they be political or not, being hashed and re-hashed, but do you have to read them?

It seems it is usually the same people, that take the time to read and then comment about the thread they are reading, in a negative, condescening, or smug way.

Are you not able to scan the beginning of the thread by reading the title and then running your mouse over the thread to see the first line or so?

This kind of reminds me of people that bitch and moan about what is on TV, and my question to them is, "does your remote control or channel changer not work?"

I guess you can count me in as part of the group that is sick and tired of hearing those that are are sick and tired of seeing certain threads and posts and then having to let all the rest of us know. (I know the irony of that statement is rich). May I suggest:

If you don't like it, don't bother to read it. If you read it and still don't like it and have to make one of your snide comments, I guess that is my problem for reading that far into the thread.

I just figure there should be some balance on this, since we have to hear so many people whine about another political thread, or another 9mm vs 45 thread, or another AK vs AR thread.

Its annoying?

Umm... I guess people comment because every single day theres at least 2 new anti "you know who" threads and it just getting annoying? I mean yea we dont have to read it but we have to see the thread titles.

Shouldn't we be working toward bringing more liberals into the fold instead of alienating them? I thought that was the concensus of one of the recent threads. I'll tell you something not many liberals are going to be very open to our community if everyday theres 2 or more threads bashing Obama. If it keeps up we might even alienate a few of our members who arn't in lock step with the entire crowd. It just gets old after a while. And not to sound condesending but it just comes across as whining after a while. Just trying to give the OP a honest answer, Not Trolling.

I only read about 10% of new threads for this very reason. My time is better spent elsewhere......

Thankfully the "THR Elite" are at their keyboards this morning, and are blessing us with more of their constructive wisdom and whiticism.

I have as good a sense of humor as the next guy, but I find it ironic that many of those that complain about the threads, are in fact, the ones adding to the bandwidth addressing them.

Excellent position to take Farnorthdan.

IMHO, one comments on a thread like this because it is mindless to do. Doing so free one from thinking too much. Allowing one to be in a relax state of mind. Not having to think about daily necessities, or duties that one has been procrastinated.

Or may be it is the "predator" instinct.

You may have something there. And a lot of THR members have an appreciation for irony and, as noted in the OP, there's little that could be more ironic than a thread whining and complaining about whining and complaining.

It's like a verbal ouroboros.

Or what the programmers would refer to as a "recursive whine". That would be illustrated by a reply whining and complaining about a thread whining and complaining about whining and complaining.

oooohh. I think I tripped over my metaphor.

I made an effort at working a gun-related reference into the reply but I have no results to show for the effort.

Something tells me that the ratio of the number of posts a user has in comparison to the time they have been a member, might be a good indicator of whether or not they have something useful to say.

After looking at some of the posts in this thread, I would have to believe that is the case.

Is someone upset?

Are you actually upset that someone answered you honestly instead of just supporting your viewpoint? That's just narrow minded and idiotic, dont ask a question if your just going to be sarcastic and pompous when you get a responce. I gave you my answer without any sarcasms or whiticism, if you cant do the same your just immature. :neener:

Relax Seenterman, with the low number of posts and the content of your post, I would think it would be patently obvious that you were not part of the mentioned, "THR Elite".

THR Elite are those that have to comment on everything, make sure nobody breaks any rules, alert us all if there are any political words found in a thread, kiss up to the mods, and let the rest of us know how lucky we are to be able to read their wonderful words, and sneak in their famous IBTL to add to their post count. ;)

My favorite thing to see on THR is the real gung-ho rude folks, that when they type their response, you can pictures veins protruding from their neck and forehead and spittle flying from their mouth.

Not exactly High Road of them, but, even on a good forum like this, you're gonna catch a turd or two.

:D:D:D Well you guys can allways go watch cartoons if your not up to adult conversation.:neener::neener: Thin skin gets you know where in life, cowboy up a little.:D

Bear with me here......

I guess I'm one of those simple folks who needs it spelled out for me.

Let's see if I understand this correctly:

I shouldn't whine or comment about threads where folks are whining and commenting.

That's good. Then the only people whining and commenting will support your argument.

It wouldn't do to whine and comment in a contradictory way.

Thin skin gets you know where in life, cowboy up a little.

I don't think it has anything to do with thin skin as much as it has to do with the obvious double standard applied.

A thread that was recently made as a sticky regarding this subject complains about "the bandwidth" that is wasted by the whining and complaining, but if the people that didn't care about a thread and only wanted to make their stupid snide comments refrained, perhaps those threads targeted could be discussed in an adult manner.

If you don't like a thread or find it useful, perhaps you could just hit the "back" button on your browser and move on to something you do find interesting or useful.

I'm just saying...

I won't argue that there is plenty of whining and complaining, but there is plenty of good information and opinion as well. The comments either expand your perspective or make your views or positions more concrete.

Valid arguments among people are a good thing, there aren't many of the political threads or other general threads I feel I need to comment on because I don't have anything to say or I don't agree with the garbage that is being spewed, but that doesn't mean I have to get in and complain and add to the noise.

But the sheer volume of posts by the "THR Elite" is something that should be called out just as much as the rest of the threads they feel so viciously waste their time and bandwidth.

The initial post is right

I agree with the opening post, these are complex matters, and while we could bicker forever, the fact is these things are just the way they are. We could argue over who supports gun owning rights and who supports conservation and who supports property owners rights, but it is not something we can settle upon. In the end the legislators often follow the money anyways. I read Field and Stream for that, I would prefer to talk about guns here. And we could argue AK and AR or 9mm and .45 for a long time and probably have good fun, but when the posts get angry and bitter that's a buzz kill for everyone. In the end, all those guns work pretty well and more or less do what they were made to. I do get tired of people saying you can't kill someone with a 9mm, or a 5.56 mm, but whatever. If you want to use nun-chucks or a bier stein for self defense, than who am I to question that? If it's a matter of what the army uses, I could muse all day about the ways they've gone wrong or right, but it still won't get them to change what they use. I guess what I am saying is that a disagreement and a developed discussion is fun and interesting, but bitter arguments aren't.

I can understand the point of view of "Don't bother with what bothers you..".

A problem with that stance is that since election day we have had a massive increase in both "just joined" posters and "The world as we know it is ending" mob, usually on the same thread.

Without a least a little rational discussion injected the new ones will take away the impression that the denizens of the site are heavily weighted towards raving paranoid lunatics, the loons will feel their view is the only true view.

Oh of course we could just not whine about people whining.........

Who are "THR Elite"?

Apparently you missed this post:

THR Elite are those that have to comment on everything, make sure nobody breaks any rules, alert us all if there are any political words found in a thread, kiss up to the mods, and let the rest of us know how lucky we are to be able to read their wonderful words, and sneak in their famous IBTL to add to their post count.

Obviously that is just my opinion, but that is what I have noticed, and "THR Elite" just seemed to fit.
