I got a WASR-2 from AIM for like $289 about 6 months ago. It would not cycle, the gas block was in the wrong place, i contacted AIM they were no help, Century gave me an RA# and i sent it off that day, got it back about a month later, it would jam (doubble feed) all the time with the bulgarian mags. I tried a metal Tantal mag and it has been one of my favorite guns sience then. It has the odd jam now, once every 2-500 rounds or so.
If your "hot" for a 5.45,get an SAR-2!! I've had a few of them. From what
i've read, they are way better then the wasr's offered. You might spend
an extra $100 on it,but it will hold it's value.
Ammo issue, buy all the 5.45 you can manage. It will dry up when they close the boarder for "imported" ammo. Right now it's the cheapest to shoot.
Just get your gun and 10 tins, and you will be set.

This sounds similar to my experience. I bought a WASR 2 from AIM. The magwell was machined out a bit too much. The bakelite mags would wobble so much, it would take the round out of alignment with the bolt moving forward. The only way to get a string of shots off without jamming was to hold it by the mag.
Anyway, I bought a bunch of mags and found that the black and brown plastic coated mags, that are Bulgarian I think, seem to be a bit thicker and they happen to fit in the rifle and don't wobble hardly at all. So now I have a WASR 2 and selected mags that seem to work well.
To add to the Karma, I bought a Tantal build and it's magwell is a bit narrow. So the bakelites I have fit it just fine.
