Is there a 223 and 20 or 12 gauge combo gun?

I think the Savage was .223/20, and I think they offered .30-30/12 as well.

They also supposedly did a .357 Mag rifle barrel over either 12 or 20; not sure which.

All somewhat harder to find and, in my opinion, much more interesting than the bog-standard .22LR/.410 you typically encounter. I have only seen a handful of those and one or maybe two .22LR/20 guns out and about and actually in person. Granted these guns, in their heyday, were somewhat before my time.

Every example I've seen in the last
few decades were very very expensive

I saw one years ago that I wanted, and
drug my feet too long

Oh well. . . Shoulda-woulda-coulda

Around 1970 I bought a Vorere that was a .222 Rem Mag under a 3" 20 gauge. I sold it about 20 years later. Not really a useful thing for me. I did shoot a few ground hogs with it as a single shot rifle. The barrel was free floating at the front and fairly accurate but not like a bolt action rifle. But every time I shot the shotgun barrel I had to rezero the scope for the rifle. And I never found a place on public land where is was legal to hunt with it or even carry it. If you have your own land maybe it could be useful. I traded it for a 20 gauge O/U and was happy to make the deal. I wish I had just bought the O/U to start with and would have used it a lot more.

Baikal made a combo gun called the 94. It came with a 12 ga shotgun and several rifle caliber choices including .223.

Stay safe.

I have the the 24V, .357 over 20 gauge. My daughter has taken several deer with the .357 and my special handloads. It came with tapped holes for a scope mount, and is quite accurate even though the trigger has a bit to be desired.

The Remington (Baikal) 94 is another one. Note the 12 ga is on top, 223 on bottom.

Not sure if they did them in 223 but the Tilka 12-70 can be had in .222/12ga, a little work and a .223 chamber reamer and you’d be there.

Several versions of the Savage 24 were offered as well and probably the easiest to find.

for many years the savage 24v was offered with a .222 rem. barrel on top with 20 ga. on the bottom, with a 3 inch camber for the 20. The Tikka 12-70 posted by JMorris was offered by Ithaca in the mid 70s as their turkey gun , I remember the 2 page spread in their catalog. I never understood the purpose of the muzzle break on the .222 barrel unless it was to deflect the report away from the turkeys ( IF YOU MISS , I guess) . It's legal in some western states to turkey hunt with a rifle , in the fall season ,this is true in Colorado. I don't know why one would want to turn a .222 into a .223 but that's your business. Someone will be along shortly to tell us how the barrels aren't regulated very well on the 24v

Savage 24V Series D .223 0ver 20ga. Top one in picture. Topped with a Charles Daly Scope that was on it when I got it and works fine. Bottom one is a Savage Campers Companion in .22 over 20ga.View attachment 1167520
I had one like the one on top. Choke was extra-full and kind of poor for upland hunting. The combo was illegal for waterfowl hunting if the rifle barrel was loaded, perhaps even if you had rifle ammo on you? Choke was extra-full, so not especially good for jump-shooting grouse. It was also dangerous to carry with the hammer back, and the safety on the hammer wasn't quick to release. Too bad, because the combination had great promise, but didn't fulfill the role.

When I was a kid, I was not With It because I did not have an overanunder. Meaning the Savage .22-.410. Nobody knew anything about O/U shotguns, it was the little combination. Larger calibers not then being made.

I think nice combination guns are a European thing, if you are well off, you are on a drive and can shoot anything that comes by. Or you can stalk whatever is in season with appropriate ammo loaded. As said, a lot of US game laws are against it.

Over on GunBroker there is a Savage model 24 in .223 over 12 gauge. The price is a little over a grand.
