Is there a competent 17 mag hmr automatic out there.

I went to the gun shop this week looking to buy my wife a 17 for her birthday and I was hoping to find an automatic for her. My wife is not an avid shooter and to be honest, I will shoot the gun more than her but I new she would rather have an automatic vs a single shot or bolt action. I asked the gun shop owner about and automatic and he told me that Remington made a 17 mag auto but it was recalled. Something to do with the fact that there wasnt enough ooompf to make the slide retract far enough back to chamber another round. I told him I thought there were some on the market and he strongly disagreed. I am seeing the new Kel Tec 17 mag that is coming out and I am just wondering if that guy was wrong. I look forward to your thoughts.

The HMR doesnt seem to be a round that is particually well suited to autos. If your really NEED to have one, Id get a 10/22 and do a HMR barrel swap. Thats about all you can do at this point-
 
there is nothing wrong with the remmy, you can also get the older ruger 22 mag , and convert to 17 hmr, but do it right, and also Volquartzen, but you are really gonna pay for that one.
the remmy, get a new one, take apart, polish the guide rails, put back in ONLY FINGER TIGHT, AND ONLY BACK IN ENOUGH, to close up the action.
Remmy, in their infinite wisdom, put the guide rods in too tight, causing binding.
also, when you get a new one, put in an empty case, put borepaste or toothpaste all over the inside of it, around the bolt, in the reciever, in the chamber, etc., and handwork the action about 1 gozillion times. totally smooth up everything.
then, when out at the range, i would simply not fire over 100 rounds through it, without running a bore snake through it, and cleaning the chamber area/ chamber face a bit. These tips will fix any potential out of battery kaboom problems.
 
That is entirely way too much maintenance. Im a Glock man. Not that they are that pretty, but they are functional and easy. Thanks for the info guys
